>fol de dol look at me I sing songs!

Man what the fuck is this

I've tried to re-read lotr patiently and the tom bombadil part is so bad. Just bizarre bullshit that serves no purpose.

As far as I can tell it establishes that trees can be evil, there's some guy that sings songs that can counter being trees being evil, and he's fucking some broad that frodo likes. This is the most indulgent bullshit ever that builds on an intro that is already pushing its luck

>fiddly de dee

how about shut the fuck up with the singing
>>
Did you read The Hobbit?
>>
>>25176410
Yeah but like a long time ago what point are you making
>>
>>25176413
You're reading a children's book where the main characters' names used to be Bingo and Trotter.
>>
I bought this expensive hard cover version of LOTR and I have forced myself to sit there and read it this shit is fucking terrible

First of all it took 100 pages for them to even leave the shire. Just fucking go you stupid munchkins my god enough about Sam for some reason being your house elf slave

And all they do is walk past things. It is SO TEDIOUS. Do you know what a bough is? Apparently it is the main branch of a tree. Who gives a fuck right? Well get ready for page after page about descriptions of greenery. IT NEVER FUCKING ENDS.

I know it is going to be the same thing over and over again. I am dreading the barrow downs because it is the same structure that has already happened twice

>and then they went for a walk
>oh but suddenly it was hot! and the trees were menacing
>and then they got rescued by elves or something
>and then sam said the elves were cool
>>
The endless descriptions of greenery using words you don't know is the best part.

>His batman, a corporal Wayne
The most retarded thing an author ever wrote in an attempt to be funny

The vast majority of LotR fags never actually read the books as adults (if they read them at all). Of course half remembered nostalgia is going to be better than reality.

Tom Bombadil is the pleb filter for retards who were tricked by Peter Jackson into thinking that Lord of the Rings is spiritually Israeli hollywood action movies. If you don't like Tom Bombadil, you don't like Lord of the Rings.

Gravity's Rainbow mogs your favorite book.
>>
>>25176591
I don't have a singular favourite book because I am not the kind of mong who requires everything be ranked and listed. There are books I adore, books I enjoy, books I've re-read twice, and books I've re-read numerous times.
>Whis one is my favouwite
Is something a toddler says whenever he is presented with something new and enjoyable.

>Just bizarre bullshit that serves no purpose
That’s exactly the point. Some random, mysterious characters get thrown into the story just to add chaos, unpredictability, depth, and realism. In real life, not everything has a clear purpose, and not everything fits together perfectly like a puzzle.

Except Tom is CLEARLY a representation of pre-modern Druid era Albion Tolkein was old school like that some may even say... chuddy...

I always love seeing plotfags get filtered to oblivion. Good. Stop reading the books and read some Abercrombie or ACOTAR.

>backed a fascist
>had virtually almost zero women important to the story
>super autistic about world myths and language
>openly stated his dislike and hate for shit that was popular at the time
Tolkien was 100% a chud.

>As far as I can tell it establishes that trees can be evil
No, it establishes that trees can be sentient. It's a cruicial setup for the appearance of the Ents later on.
Bombadil is one of the ancient beings who can still be found in the hidden corners of Middle Earth. It's funny how you moviefags embrace the Balrog, Shelob and the lake-monster, but you all lose your shit over Bombadil.

How can you not understand that Tom Bombadil represents a final celebration of the hobbit's (and the reader's) innocence, of Tolkien's affection for fairy tales, and of the sanctity and the image of a pre-Sauron Shire? It is the final encounter with all that is good in the world, of purity and love. The last stop on their journey before the Hobbit's plunge into the unknown - and into the corrupting forces of evil.

That's how I read it anyway. Same thing with the thinking fox, an animal's thoughts are never given consideration again. And as others have said, the endless descriptions of greenery are based.
>>
>>25176407
Yeah, that's one of the aspects that hasn't aged so well. So many songs that the novels start feeling like a catalog for radio requests than actual fiction. Tolkien, while not pretentious, is often too self-indulgent and a recluse. But a lot of his trauma from the Somme, too, is also written in the pages so he has that going for him.
Pippin was also a bit of an insufferable cunt in the books.
>>
bump hate these shite book

Sometimes i think about the ents marching and singing their war songs after being riled up :)

Tolkien himself said it was a fundamentally catholic work and he expressed his love for the jewish race to the germans. He WAS spiritually israeli.
>>
>>25179821
"The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision."

2. “He expressed his love for the Jewish race to the Germans” False / Misleading
Tolkien respected Jewish people and opposed antisemitism.
There is no record of him expressing love for Jews specifically to Germans. This may be a confused interpretation of his letters criticizing antisemitism or discussing WWII-era Germany.
3. “He was spiritually Israeli” False
Tolkien was not Jewish.
There is no evidence he identified as spiritually Israeli or Jewish. He remained a practicing Catholic his whole life.
Any claim to “spiritually Israeli” is likely a metaphor or a misreading, not something Tolkien ever said.
