>spend years and years working on a novel>reread it>realize half of it is unusable trashwhat do I do now?
write another novel, not much else you can do
>>25176809Be glad you even have time to write. Most people around the world are thirdies who can't even afford an education.
Fix it with AI
>>25176809die
>>25176809Stick to watching animu
>>25176809If I read myself sometimes I cringe at myself. Its not pure trash tho. Sometimes I feel like its repetitive but that is part of the thinking. I read that some major authors like george rr matini do many eidts and it makes sense. First you are creative and only later when revisiting you can/should edit.
rework the parts you like into something else and get it down to like 25% unusable trash, then 12.5%, etc. the stuff you actually like is ingrained in your brain better than you think and you have a better 6th sense for writing now than when you started. keep working man. the masters fail more than the beginners try
>>25176809OP I'm actually happy to let you know that noticing that means you have improved as a writer. CongratsNow you have only really one option and it is to redo everything from the start. Keep being honest with what you would prefer to be better. Take notes on what is important to come through in those parts and rewrite them. If it feels like a lot of work, remember that you will enjoy doing it and it will lead towards a piece you will have less regrets on putting out there.
>>25176809You rewrite it. Most of humanity never writes anything noteworthy at all. Why not try your hand at it, even if it takes a whole lifetime to make something readable?
>>25176910Dat nigga George need to work on his prose
>>25176809Believe it or not, that's a good thing and proves you've grown as a writer since you started it. It's natural to look back at your older work and see 100 things you could've done differently/better, even when it's published. It's the people who think they've struck gold on the first attempt that aren't likely to get anywhere.
>>25176809Keep the good half and rewrite the rest, or turn it into a novella and start working on something else afterwards
When I reread myself, I get caught up in the story and can't put it down. Then again, writing is my job.
>>25176809You thought what you'd written was meaningful at one point. That's what matters. Now that you look back on it with fresh eyes you realise there's areas you could improve. Good. What you're engaged in shouldn't be an economised labour with hard deadlines, etc., but a sincere process of creation. You're not wage slaving when you're writing so rid yourself of that attitude.Time is an illusion outside of the profane sphere of life. It doesn't matter how long it takes. To pursue a project without regard for time is a sacred act.
>>25176809The only possible way you can notice that if is you have improved. Nearly every writer has a shit novel they started with. Get over it, and go write another. And, by the way, that will be shit too, so will the next one. The average failed novel is 3, so yeah. That's your future. Decide now if you can go through with it, or if you're gonna pussy out.
>>25176809lol bro its called editing
>>25176832We should accept them all into our country because they have so much to contribute and will totally not use us for their own benefit and drain us of our own resources lol.
>>25176809>he thought the first draft would be good
>>25177313Most of the world doesn't care to write a novel.
If you're not competent enough to write a dazzling novel that needs a minimum of reworking after one draft, face that you're not at the level of novel-writing at all. You should work up to it by degrees. Start with short stories, compile a collection, and then go novella, novelette, and novel. But launching into a novel without first doing the spadework is a recipe for disappointment.
>>25180286T.someone who doesnt write
yeah that post reads like somebody who has a very theoretical understanding of what skills are. failure so horrible that you blush thinking about it in private is a necessary part of learning and only being a teacher's pet in public school can convince you otherwise. never trust someone who uses perfect punctuation and grammar on the internet. keep failing and keep exposing yourself to new styles of stuff
