liberation day felt way too minimalist and redundant--think he's run thru the amusement park stories for a while now. tenth of december and his earlier collections (pastoralia, in persuasion nation) are close to modern brilliance.

can someone rec me a current writer who's on saunders' level?

Lincoln in the Bardo is good for about the length of a short story (20 pages or so). After that it takes a nosedive into saccharine cliche.
