>1 books completed>3 books behind schedule
If you read because you enjoy it why would you care?
>>25179308A book should act as an axe to shatter the frozen sea of emotional numbness, complacency, and internalized social conventions within us
>>25179323Feels good amirite? Counting your books, reporting the number, and collecting them when you could get them for free at the library often seems performative to me.
>>25179323And not to say collecting books is wrong, but i only collect my favorites which i know i will enjoy reading. A lot of anons tend to read certain "classic" because they think they should. The whole circle jerk culture of posting the same books over and over with the exact same insights and the inability to engage on new material i think is proof of that.
>>25179333I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with reading classics because you think you should. I think that's quite telling of that specific person, that he wants to be familiar with works that defined certain periods of time or are held in high respect. That doesn't seem like a wrong reason to read books. Certainly better than just for enjoyment

If you want to do that, you will get enjoyment out of it. Of course one shpuld also read for specific utilizations in mind. Those will either be relevant and or something learned for the enjoyment of it. See a lot of faggots forcing themselves to read books they dont like and not enjoying it or not having a very specific purpose in mind regarding the book.
>>25179300This is why I didn't do a reading challenge this year + I have school
>>25179300Oof.
>>25179300Why are you wasting time on /lit/ right now? Shouldn't you be catching up on your reading?
I'm 7/15 but 3 of those were manga so I'm more like 4/15.
;)
>scheduleI've read 2 books this year so farmaybe I'll read 1 moremaybe I'll read 100 more
>>25179300sure thing kat williams
>>25179300>>25179308>>25179351You read for enjoyment, for learning new (for you) ideas and concepts and to be able to understand fully more complex and/or historically formed from previous sources ideas and concepts, which in addition to better understanding of world, man, logic and other various entities and their structures also leads to more enjoyment of better quality and better variety of it.So reading certain books you don't like, that nevertheless are the foundation of some books, concepts and ideas, that came later, if only as a thing refuted by those newcomers, is important to properly understand this newcomers in the first place.Which is precisely why "start with greeks" is a good advice even when it is parroted mindlessly.
>>25180499>Which is precisely why "start with greeks" is a good advice even when it is parroted mindlessly. Some of the earliest greek philosophy is just obvious if you grew up somewhat educated but didnt read a ton of philosophy. I always feel like i need a more abridged list of books when reading greeks so i dont read redundant shit.
