My dad used to whip me with an extension cord. I wouldn't give the bastard the satisfaction of seeing me in pain, so I'd just cross my arms, scowl and bear it until he gave up. I remember one time he drew so much blood my socks were wet and he started crying "why do you make me do this?!?!". The first time I took a swing at him I was in the 7th grade. I charged him and socked him in the gut. My father wasn't a fat man, but it felt as is my entire arm had just slid elbow-deep into a goose down pillow. He laughed at me and laid me on my ass with a haymaker. The next time I fought him I was in the 9th grade. He was in the kitchen, drunk, talking shit and eating an apple. I was in the kitchenette area of his girlfriend's trailer home, where I slept on the couch, eating a bowl of cereal. I told him to shut the fuck up, and he charged me, screaming, half-eaten apple in hand, raised over his head. I had just enough time to set down my bowl of cereal on the entertainment center and take a 3-point stance. When he was on me I took him down the ground immediately. The whole trailer shook. Next thing I know I'm straddled over top of him, raining down blows on him. He was shouting "stop! stop, damnit!" in between punches. I stopped and he caught me with a mean one and blacked my eye. We never came to blows again.I came to like him more later in life, but he died in my early 30s from a drug overdose.Anyway, eating apples seems better than having them cracked over your head.

boomers had it rough with their psycho ultraboomer parents i think. my grandfather passed away recently and i guess i could always sense some sort of tension or distance between him and my dad, but now my dad have started opening up his childhood, how he got beaten up all the time until he could fight back as a teenager. i am mid 30's and have never heard any of this shit before. it makes me sad to hear and to imagine my father as a child being hit at home by someone you should have trust in and being stuck in an environment like for years.
