So i have a friend who recently got into audiobooks and he keeps talking about this one and tries getting us into it but it just seems like slop to me,did anyone here read it and what do you think of it ? worth getting into ?

this looks like project hail reddit and reddit player one combined. never read it but safe to assume your friend has shit taste.
>>
It’s well made normieslop

>never read it but safe to assume your friend has shit taste.
yea to be fair our taste don't overlap that much but he was acting like it was the best series he's ever read and after looking it up its apparently in a genre called litRPG ?! seems like its basically a narrated video games.

I have NOTHING against reading an occasional slop but judging by that cover I assume not much effort went into this. So why should I spend the effort reading it? I might be making a proverbial mistake but here we are.

of course it's slop
tell him that you read for the same reason you go to the gym (you do go to the gym, don't you?)
>>
same situation but actually tried it
gigaslop

>(you do go to the gym, don't you?)
i have dumbbells and stuff and train at home 3 times a week, here gym membership is expensive and id rather do it in my own space.

i read this thing in like 5 hours, and i thought it was AI generated or something. it's like the guy mashed together all the tropes he knew, added reddit tier humor and vulgarity.

it's perfect for normies who don't like reading, which is why it's getting popular with the romantasy crowd
>>

I got over halfway through the first book and couldn't finish it. it's like a dumb action comedy movie in book format. just turn your brain off and enjoy. it wasn't for me, but that's fine.
>>

The first book there is a lot of experiments and not all of them hit the mark, but it gets really good from book 5 onwards.

this. reading this stuff for fun is fine. reading this stuff because you think it is "peak fiction" makes you a retard. adults watch spongebob with their kids sometimes, but it's not because they think spongebob is the best shit ever

>You can't judge books by their cover
Maybe that used to be true. Not anymore.

What do you recommend as a "fun read" instead?
>>
The audiobook is very decent for when you are doing stuff and want to listen to something that doesn't require 100% of your attention. Donut's voice is hit or miss for some people though. You need to not mind it or you will hate the audiobook. I listen to them at the gym or when I'm cooking.
It is not high literature or high tier fantasy by any means but it is not as trash and reddit coded like andy weir.

i like visual novels, some comics/manga, the occasional NPR approved novel. but odds are some of that stuff would be seen as "overly pretentious" by weebs and gamers who think that popcorn flicks in novelized form are high art.

Sci-fi
>>
It's nothing particularly special. Likes others have said it's written for normies. The plot is decent but full of tropes. It's just entertaining. I enjoyed it decently, but I wouldn't confuse it with well written or ground breaking.

To his defense, as an audio book it's a lot less jarring.

But the genre is fucking garbage from top to bottom, and these are equivalent in prose to something like Animorphs.

t. Also had it recommended by a normie friend, DNF about 30 pages in.
