Light in August and Absalom are peak kino. These are the novels where Faulkner showcases his rather amazing voice.Sound and the Furry and As I Lay Dying are so derivative of Joyce and other continental modernist works that I consider them unreadable, and I will never understand why people like them.

I have American friends who believe me some sort of intellectual autist because I read a lot, I generally read a lot of classic stuff and Faulkner is about as recent as I go (generally). But though I am an autist, I am not an intellectual in any way shape or form. I just like reading, it’s literarily entertaining for me to explore different styles and I like to learn about things that lay outside of my own cultural sphere.
