What does /lit/ think of this series? As a retard who hadn't read a book since high school, I thought it was nothing short of incredible.
>>
it's decent. ending is a copout though, it's 5 seconds of shock value followed by 20 years of feeling scammed

I'm currently reading the jfk book and he spent 300 pages before introducing the main love interest and it took him less then 30 pages to start fucking on the daily

>DUDE LE FIELD OF FLOWERS, SO DEEP, SUCH EMOTION
why is "mature" fantasy always like this

I hated the ending as I read it, but after some thought, I feel its the only way it could have ended without cheapening the rest of the story. But yeah it does feel a little "maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way"
>>
>>25189884 haven't read that one yet but sounds about right
>>
The New York chapters were a slog to get through after Drawing of the Three.
>>
>>25189892
man i havent thought of those in years, dont even remind me
>>
>>25189892
Some of them were incredibly boring, but I thought some of them were at least somewhat interesting. I enjoyed when Jake and Callahan were on Susannah's trail in book 6
>>
>>25189895
Also, book 6 is very over-hated imo. I thought the meta stuff was fucking stupid, but I enjoyed everything else about it. I particularly enjoyed the parts with Roland and Eddie
>>
I got into it pretty hard as youngling, (peak King audience). It's pretty wild how it starts in the desert and where it goes from there. I was along for the ride but it really started to stretch around Wizard & Glass. I'm sure there are quotes/notes out there, but it really starts to seem thrown together because he wanted to keep going with the story (people were all over his ass to finish the saga) and he had no real vision on how to get there (GRR Martin anyone?)
I had low expectations for the movie, but it was still one of the worst I've ever seen. The play would have been to faithfully adapt the Gunslinger.
The worst (or best if you're SK) part is they paid $19.19 million for the rights...way to fuck it up Akiva Goldsman.
I really don't care about the casting of Edris, but just curious what other anons think about the best choice to play Roland. I recall SK saying that he pictured Clint Eastwood when he was writing.

Right, the Mohaine desert is like the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg. Took me a while to get through Wizard and Glass, as well as Wolves of the Calla. Disliked certain parts of Song of Susannah and The Dark Tower but overall thoroughly enjoyed them, nearly as much as The Drawing of the Three and The Waste Lands. Thought the movie could not have been more far removed from the books. The tower is barely mentioned, Ka is never mentioned even once, no Eddie or Susannah. Its an decent-at-best movie on its own legs, but its gotta be the worst adaptation of anything I've ever seen. I've always kinda pictured Vigo Mortensen as Roland.

first 4 books are incredible, after that he can't sustain the elan vital, should have wrapped it up book 5.
>>
>>25189965
I agree and disagree. I think books 2-4 are god-tier, but I actually really loved 6 and 7. Book 5 was cool but had some manor pacing issues for me
>>
I can never figure out to rank this series, it's just too all over the place
>>

It's a bad end to a multi-route mystery visual novel, if you're familiar with the term.

It peaked with Wizard & Glass.

People get hung up on the ending but really it deteriorated hard before that.
Also WTF was that throwaway sentence with the junkie having childporn magazines?
