Are there any book reviewers who are actually good? I don’t think I’ve met anyone who buys books based on reviews, but I also don’t like the idea of wasting money on some shit novel
>>
Michael Dirda? I don't know, what kind of books and what kind of reviews are you looking for?

Why listen to some midwit faggot tell you about a book he liked or disliked? Just read up on a book that catches your eye, and some info on the writer, then if it interests you, check it out.

Crazy to me that there are probably people who got into Mishima through him

I tried watching one of this retard’s videos once and he was reading Descartes (he couldn’t even pronounce his name properly) and was saying he was trying the CPR, he didn’t even go into Kant’s philosophy but instead just started talking about how autistic he was as a person. The man is an idiot.

He probably posted /here/ a long time ago, his tastes align a lot

His taste looked pretty shit outside of Kierkegaard.

Think think of books as books. You should have interests and then seek books that matches your interests. Do you like insects? Read up on insects. Do you like hard scifi? Find hard scifi books. Etc etc.

confirms my suspicion that mishima now belongs to the beta male dorks

this dude's ok. The only tolerable one I've found but I can't say I've looked too hard. Talks a bit about what he liked about the book, references a few lines, then brings up some other books that he saw some parallels to.
I genuinely don't know the point of most book reviews desu, most of them are just summaries with maybe a line or two at the end saying if they liked it or not. I really don't know who that's even for, because if you read the book you don't need a summary, and if you didn't then what are you doing reading a summary? It seems to be mostly an exercise for the author of the review, and there's nothing one can gain from that.
If you can find a college lecture on youtube of the book you want some discussion on, that seems to be the best place imo

I like Angela Collier, I just think she seems grounded

A man can only take so much reddit in one pic. Yes, I know he’s the guy who said nigger or whatever but that changes nothing.

I trust https://www.youtube.com/@thelibraryladder
Odd to listen to his softened voice sometimes, but whatever.

Also love the mini essays of Feral Historian, though he does talk film and television in the same genre, listen to whichever

Someone I've only seen a few from is Liminal Spaces. He's all about the weird side, but seems like a nice guy.
