Funny how this book explains all kinds of conspirancy theories and why they get big. Read it.Inb4 "its the jews"
It’s actually more comforting for some to believe a shadowy cabal is controlling the world than to accept that the world is chaotic, random, and nobody is actually in charge.
>>25192814>the world is chaotic, random, and nobody is actually in chargeI don't see how you can come to any other conclusion after seeing how petty and banal the lives of the "puppet masters" actually are
Great book but whoever approved that cover needs to be shot in the head, ugly af
>>25192825I'm opposed to capital punishment so I disagree with this.
gay book by gar writer
>>25192804OP can't inb4, it's the jews.
actually if you read the book attentively it's not the jews, it's the gays
>>25192804Never understood why people keep saying Aglie is based on Hagbard Celine, they have practically nothing in common aside from being charismatic and appearing to a group of leftists to redpill them. Hagbard is very clearly a libertarian anarchist with barely outward interest in the occult, whereas Aglie is just an aristocratic occultist who thinks he's a reincarnation of some Egyptian priest. I always thought Aglie was a mix of Aleister Crowley mixed with Lucio Gielli and that random Argentinian politician that Eco cited as an inspiration for Aglie (forgot the name of that guy). Also I always interpreted the book as less of a deconstruction of Illuminatus Trilogy and more as a commentary on how Illuminatus Trilogy was written (the two creators of the book worked in the publisher industries and started out doing pretty much shitposting about the occult before genuinely believing in it, much like the three protagonists). But it was less meant to be commentary on Illuminatus and moreso on idiots who misinterpreted the trilogy or the copy-cats. That's why Eco called Dan Brown "one of my creatures", because Dan Brown is pretty much the exact type of person Eco was satirizing in Focault's Pendulum (though if anything, maybe he was a bit more generous in depiction, considering Dan Brown who isn't even an intellectual like the characters in Focault's Pendulum are, he's arguably much worse than any of the characters in the book are).
>>25192825The gilt ones are my favourites. Name of the Rose for reference because I like that one as well. I wonder if it's available with the goldleaf lettering?
>>25192804>>25196590Also thinking about it, if there IS a character that Aglie is based on from Illuminatus. It's probably Simon Moon not Hagbard Celine. The scene where Aglie tells Causaubon about numerology is almost 1:1 to Simon doing the same thing to Malik. They also behave pretty similarly and IIRC are described pretty similarly too. >>25196657>I wonder if it's available with the goldleaf lettering? For Name of the Rose? Yes it is. Pic related.
