Why does reddit hate this book? I really enjoyed reading intial chapters it but apparently this book like any substance according to many reviews.What's the lit opinion on Pickwick papers? Should I read it or just go to mature dickens?
>>25193679Doesn't reddit generally hate Dickens and similar 19th century lit in general for the wordiness? I never understood this criticism, Dickens' prose is entertaining in an almost sing-songy way. Despite the length it has a rhythmic quality.
I don't like Dickens because he implies poors should be treated like humans when they are in fact not humans

>>25193679All of Dickens is worth reading. I treat his novels as a kind of palate cleanser between "heavier" works. Don't read this as me disparaging his oeuvre. He's one of my favorites, but the whimsiness of his writing lends itself well to that type of reading.
