Can anyone lay out the connection between Evangelical Christian fiction in the 1980s-90s and the rise of neoconservatism as the primary ideology of the American right a little bit earlier?Basically, how did neocon ideology lead to the explosion of Evangelical novels and culture? Fran Peretti, for instance, wrote numerous novels during this time featuring demons and other “hidden forces” (such as the so-called abortion lobby) manipulating American society when Reagan and Bush I were president. Does this have any relation to Straussian Neoconservatism?
Jews
From what I recall, Strauss believed religion was necessary for keeping society in order. He believed that only intellectual elites are fit to rule, but that they have to keep their beliefs secret or else they will be persecuted, so they write esoterically in some ways and exoterically in others. How Strauss fits into the Evangelical paradigm is something I don't understand.
>>25194900I remember liking Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker well enough though I've never jived too well the neocon-evangelical political sphere. My parents raised me, somewhat unintentionally, as Christian pacifist. I remember them pointing at pres. Dubya on TV while we were watching a pirated 9/11 conspiracy theory video and telling me "that man probably ain't the Antichrist but he aint too far off neither". As I talk about it now, it comes back to me, actually; my childhood was filled with pretty graphic depictions violence against christians yet not once do I recall a single time I saw an image of christians "fighting back". The closest I ever got to that was one time when the whole family went out to watch Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, which to this day remains the only movie we've ever seen together in the theatre as a family, after a church friend gave my mom a glowing review of the movie. The car ride back home was dead silent. I only learned about Just War Theory when I took a philosophy elective in college.
>>25194900I doubt Peretti or any of these guys have ever heard of Leo Strauss.
>>25194900Don't forget the Left Beyond series, they were huge on the early 00s. I read a bunch of them. Corny but to my teen mind riveting (and I wasn't even a Christian)
>>25197157How do they play into the Neocon ideology?
>>25194900>prophet by Frank PerettiI vaguely remember this book from my teen years. Basically, the main character is a news anchor who sees visions of girls dying from botched abortions and how the state governor is in-bed with the clinic so he sends goons to kill anyone who exposes the truth. Really stupid premise but that’s what conservatives believed in the 90s.
>>25194900>connection between Evangelical Christian fiction in the 1980s-90s and the rise of neoconservatism as the primary ideology of the American right a little bit earlierepstein told moot to start /pol/ so that /pol/ could be flooded with pedo propaganda, but /pol/ had memes and anonymity so pedos could be dismissed with an imagemacro. once the israelis realized that epstein was dead and young Christians were all following the faithful word baptist podcast, they cashed in all their chips and did the iran war, until the soldiers started to talk about refusing to target civilian infrastructure. thats the entire history of the last 50 years since the project to make education a God-forsaken enterprise and legalize adultery and infanticide were completed
I don't think the Peretti / Jenkins / LaHaye axis had much contact with neoconservatism. I was a neocon and I fucking hated fundies. Still do.It was nice that some of the evangelicals had a "dispensationalism" dodge around the continued existence of Jews as Jews. The Jenkins crew unfortunately also held to "the Rapture" where they hoped they'd be translated into Heaven and leave the rest of us, benighted incomplete Christians as they thought we were, into the struggle with Antichrist.I'm more interested in the relationship between Rapture belief and the civil rights movement. Work hard enough and you can move to a suburb without any niggers.
>>25194900* papists aint read Bible* high church disappeared* low church puritans have calvinist study materials. also low church puritanism was already largely dead by the time yarvin incorrectly saw it as the greatest future threat to the jews and made the connection between puritanism and communism in his 2010's blog* low church Christians got sold dispensationalism because its fun and easy to wear. they didnt know that the yarn about the 7 churches in asia being 7 church ages would be used to advocate for genocide in gaza and bombing iranian girls. they should of known that saying that some people are saved without accepting Jesus Christ was tantamount to saying that they are without sin and therefore have the authority to do anything under [Jn 8], but saying jews do nothing wrong and dont need to change sounds more like charity than blasphemy if you dont know what plans the jews have
>>25197600>continued existence of Jews as Jewscan you do better than murder and genocide as jews or do you need to be jewish ethnic Christians like paul and brother nathaniel? every Christian reads [Rom 11] and wonders what he can do to help the people God used to keep the masoretic text for 1000's of years for translation by the kjv committee> I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, 3Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 4But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.> 7What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded> 8(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.> 9And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:> 10Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.> 11I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? 13For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. 15For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? 16For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
>>25197600> 17And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?> 25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.> 26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:> 27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.> 28As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. 29For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. 30For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 31Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
>>25197356The 90s anti-abortion movement was a shitshow. Operation Rescue was basically a terrorist group.
should i read any of these? They seem kind of awesome, in their own kitschy way. There's a modern gothic vibe to the whole thing.
