eh, it's not german. it's thomas may's translation and properly it should be "ſ", but i can't make that with my keyboard. i used a image-to-text website on a picture i took of the .pdf made by achivists of a microfilm made by yet earlier archivists of the printed book which, having been printed in 1820 on the old timey gutenberg style press, still employed the "long s" ("ſ"). the image-to-text website read the "ſ" as "f", and i went through and repalced each such "f" with a "ß". i did this because of my personal notions of clarity and fidelity.

He did have the people on his side, his funeral turned into a giant city-wide riot, the crowd actually stole his body and built a giant funeral pyre and allegedly it was some genuine mass hysteria shit with people throwing their own clothes and jewellery into the fire. The problem is that having the common people on your side doesn't help much when you get stabbed to death by the whole senate inside a senate meeting.
