I'll risk looking like an idiot to say: I don't get the whole banned books thing.

Obviously these books aren't banned and for 95% of them there has never once been a risk of their ban, ever. Beyond that, nobody means these sort of books when they talk about dangerous or subversive books.

It's like seeing a sign for red apples and it's instead a bunch of loaves of bread. This obviously isn't fooling anyone, but even if it did, to what possible end?

Realistically something like Mein Kampf

People would argue something like the turner diaries or camp of the saints, but if girls know about those they are probably the most racist women alive.
>>
>>25195854
You are right in your sentiment. It takes exploring the leftist mindset to understand this. Leftists have a serious need to feel like the heroes of the story, but are too cowardly and immoral to ever be true heroes. So, they attempt to change this by twisting reality so they look and feel brave without actually having to be brave. To leftists, banned books are not the books actually banned currently, they are not the ones that could get you kicked out of university or fired from work, they are books that at one point were the least bit controversial but are now fully accepted by the mass of society. They therefore claim accepted books are banned books to feel like le hero reading le banned books.

I think it's a mix of books that did get challenged at various times by Evangelical church ladies at school districts in Missouri 40 years ago, plus some well-known totalitarian lit (Orwell). This apparently happened to Catcher in the Rye a lot in the 1960s, 1970s. Like it was a thing, and boomer progressives/leftists/liberals remember that but if you're like me it happened before you were even born.

>>25196465
A girl made off with my copy of Mein Kampf. She was also mentally ill though.

>>25196488
I love that you said the books were at one point controversial but are now fully accepted by mass society. I think they want to feel like heroes too and they see everything in terms of a moral drama, but Karl Marx had some good quotes about how "the tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living," and that when people don't fully understand what's going on, they reach backward and "anxiously conjure up the spirits of the past" that are symbolic in some kind of way. Like you have these people who are afraid of Trump or the political right and they feel threatened so Trump is a fascist, and then when they go to Barnes & Noble they see this "banned books" shelf and they're like "it's so relevant."

Also lol probably. Whenever I see a picture of a white nationalist group it's a bunch of guys but there's sometimes one girl in the group who just looks mean. A lot of the guys are nerds or they are getting pestered by a local antifa group and the guys want to keep it kind of chill so the cops don't get involved while the girl is like DO A DRIVE BY

Yeah, I think this is ultimately what the answer is, with the slight expansion to mean "or books that weren't banned but people have tried a lot"

I was shocked to hear The Giver is considered a banned book as I read it for school in my hickville hometown in Maine. Only later I realized what was actually mean is that every so often a parent will see some out-of-context quote and complain to a school library, but it was rarely ever banned in a way that word (to me) implies.

> People would argue something like the turner diaries or camp of the saints, but if girls know about those they are probably the most racist women alive.
Correct however Mein Kampf is not the “realistic” alternative. Plenty of women won’t even have heard of it. Maybe they spot Hitler as the author.
Far more likely is you trigger the RED FLAG brigade with books you never even considered. Jordan Peterschwein is an obvious candidate here but a couple of decades ago a DFW book would be pussy repellent (when he was more talked about). Individual titles like American Psycho or Fight Club carry stigma even if the authors aren’t well known (you could have another Chuck or Bret book without being clocked). A lot of self help/ business books are RED FLAGS. It’s hard to keep track. Obviously anything redpill/manosphere related (why are you owning these though, are you retarded?).

In book club circles you could be problematic just for having LOTR on the shelf. What’s in and out in those groups (including Discord channels) wax and wane, in a psychotic fashion. Owning a Harry Potter book (don’t you know Rowling is transphobic anon???) would at least require you to apologize. Owning a Gaiman book (haven’t you heard the ALLEGATIONS) could unperson you.

I am part of some of these online groups and they’re like cults run by feminist mental cases the lot of them. Whatever the head hen decides is true that day better be true for you, or you are an unbeliever.

I always find it funny that literature is the only space in this world where the most intelligent people can coexist with the most dumbest people in mutualistic relationship, like the intelligent people looked at the dumb people as lolcow, to motivate themselves 'to not be like them', to make them as some kind of ice breaker or humor after long day reading and dissecting their books while the dumbs are seeing intelligent people as 'they are' - that they think that 'I'm smart because I'm here with smart people'

>>25196582
She has fucked literally no one in her life. Dumb femcel. Also, she hasn’t read a single book she’s talking about, who in their female mind would think Kant “generally okay” if she’s irked by almost every book ever?
>>
>>25197499
I don’t ever like to consider myself intelligent since I’m not a hauteur, or maybe I have low self esteem. But I think very little of the actual morons who’re into reading. I’ve interacted with them and they’re the most conceited people you’ll meet. They think they’re smart for simply reading a book, not one that requires any effort to dissect and fully retain but just any book. I feel kind of insulted in a way because I find myself reading mostly cerebral stuff these days, old poetry and kantian idealism mainly. I put great effort into going through them thoroughly because I want to be able to grasp everything I can. So when I see someone judge someone negatively just because of the name of a book they like it’s really exasperating. Or when people call themselves intellectuals for reading bottom of the barrel slop.
>>
>>25197965
It's from a femcel subreddit so they're going to complain about basically any book a normal man might like. Vonnegut has even the slightest bit of edge about women so he's too offputting for them

Strange, I just read Jailbird and if anything he demonstrated a respect for the plight of women and a self-deprecating, diminutive characterisation of the self-insert male MC. To be fair though, that and Breakfast of Champions are the only Vonneguts I've read now that I think of it. And BoC I read many years ago so I don't remember it too well.

>>25198180
It's about a totalitarian society that enforces safety and contentedness by removing everything extraneous to life, the good and the bad. Only one member of society, called the Receiver of Memory, is allowed to remember how things used to be, and the MC is being trained to be the next Receiver.

It's the framework a lot of YA books borrow heavily from but is otherwise free from the cancers that plague YA these days. It's anti-authoritarian but has a much more gentle and sincere conclusion than other dystopian stories.
