The world building in Dune is a gigantic asspull.
if you mean the ecology yeah. the worms eat worm shit. there's no food chain really, they're just about the only life form on the planet. that said the politics are kino. the idea that on a timescale large enough we revert back to monarchies and are heavily ruled by tradition was solid.
>>25198452the worms don't eat the spice, do they?
>>25198459yeah but don't they also make it somehow?
>>25197198tell you about your great idea for a six-novel epic, anon. > school for witches whose powers come from magic butt plugs
>>25198513The worms absorb moisture and I guess animal life, and produce the spice.
>>25198452The worms eat sand plankton.Read the fucking book, you stupid cunt.
>>25198520the only other animal i remember is the sand mice. plant life is vaugely alluded to.>>25198530i read the first kne and a half books in high school and i do not feel inclined to go backwards or fowards from this point.
>>25198558Humans. The worms eat humans. Also, I'm pretty sure there are like wolves and birds and stuff on Arrakis. It gets mentioned somewhere.
>>25197198"World building" as a concept is stupid. I do not care if gay nerds think the ecology of fantasy sand planet is realistic; the setting is only relevant insofar as it provides a backdrop for interesting characters and compelling themes.
>>25198664Post tits.
>>25198670Women don't care about themes, they just want sex scenes you dumbass.
>>25197198How so? (It isn't)
>>25197198>typewriter enjoyerbased
>>25197198He looks handsome as fuck in this pic.
you had me at gigantic ass
>>25198519
>>25198606it's not really relevant that they eat humans because humans aren't native to arrakis. they can't be used to fill in an ecological gap.
>>25198671So what? You're a tranny. Post tits.
>>25199762Troons love their giant fanwikis full of lore more than anyone else, that's why they're all into garbage like WH40k.
>>25198530I read the book but the life cycle of the sandworms was confusing. Also isn't it crazy that they managed to capture a baby one of those things and then it's just never mentioned again?
>>25200911IIRC. Sand plankton, sandtrout, pre-spice masses, and sandworms are all the same species in different phases of its lifecycle. Sand plankton absorb energy from the sun and multiply, the sandworms eat them. When sand plankton encounter water they undergo a metamorphosis and transform into sandtrout, which surround and encyst the water and use it to produce water of life. The water of life eventually triggers a transformation (via a symbiotic fungus) of the sandtrout into a pre-spice mass, which eventually grows up towards the surface and bursts, scattering spice over the sand. Sandtrout that survive the pre-spice mass become little makers, which are baby sandworms. Also, under certain conditions, the adult sandworms can undergo a reverse-metamorphosis break apart into millions of sand plankton and thousands of sandtrout. It's a ridiculously complicated lifecycle, but there are some real parasite species that get close to that level.
>>25197198so's you're mom
>>25198519what the fuck. my elevator pitch for a movie is the craft but with dudes, a ragtag high school b-team, and the star quarterback's witch/warlock power is the ability to control his normally uncontrollable sphincter, giving him the tightest bhole on the planet earth. you can perhaps see where this is going? he can now run plays without shitting the field, talk to girls without shitting the lunchroom, discuss sunday night hbo without shitting the watercooler. anyhow, while your idea is not the same or really anywhere close, it does involve something blocking the anal cavity and magic, so that's probably something. but yeah i've been kicking the old can around concerning this yarn for quite some time indeed. really nailing down the old b-plots. a well-oiled machine.
