Good evening /lit/,I'm looking for places to talk about literature with people who don't care about inflating their internet identity. I like /lit/ but the incel stuff is a bit too much for me.I'm very new here so maybe I can just learn to ignore the incel stuff like it's a tic that they can't control.Anyway I appreciate any suggestions, thank you.
>>25207726Come back to /lit/ 14 years ago, you’ll find what you’re looking for.Just ignore it. You’ll get used to it. There are still some decent discussions here, it just requires a bit more searching and a well thought out thread topic. I’d stay away from any obvious bait threads that are ubiquitous here as of late. Specifically ones based around Thomas Pynchon or William Gaddis. Detractors and defenders alike resorting to schoolyard insults. The only thing you had to worry about before all this was /lit/ being elitist and calling your favourite book shit.
>>25207730Thanks. It's hard to not respond to every stupid post but I guess that's what feeds them
>>25207740If I had to guess, the ones making a ruckus probably don’t use /lit/ as often as they do another board. But yeah, stick around if you have the patience. What are you reading? de Beauvoir?
>>25207747whole generations of human crops have been infiltrated by the pol/epstein/incel/racist frog culture. only way to make america great again is to burn that shit down - except that its half a century of right-wing culture ops aimed at fascism in america. maybe the pope will save us.
>>25207747No but I recently read A Very Easy Death by de Beauvoir which was very good. I chose that picture to attract the right posters. How about you?
>>25207768I see, I’ve never read her myself, nor have I Sartre actually. Honestly, I read what the thread topic is before looking at the image (on an imageboard no less). I just finished reading Dead Souls, it was as brilliant as it was surprisingly funny. I’m going to get through some of Gogol’s short stories and then who knows what next.
>>25207787I haven't read much Russian stuff. Only a little bit of Chekhov and some Dostoyevsky. The names make it so hard to follow
>>25207763No one is going to ruin civilization to placate your whims, sorry. You might as well kill yourself now.
>>25207834you and your maga ilk already have.thanks i guess
I hate Booktok so much it's unreal
>>25207726I suggest ignoring the bait posts. Do not engage. Starve them of attention and they will wither like shrubs in the burning heat of a month of dry summer days. What is a bait post? It’s any post you feel smacks of disingenuousness, cheekiness, deceit, cunning, tomfoolery, jest, spite, etc., any post designed to make you angry, upset, tilted, etc.; low-effort one liners and memes; unsubstantiated statements of delusional import should be probed until they evaporate or condense in solid form. In other words, find what’s earnest.
I mostly use lit to find out trends and wait for threads about knowledge that I have to help users out. You usually find a well read person every couple of days that provides good insights. Also being quiet until you got a good store of books under your belt to talk about is fun. Don't trend seek though unless you find a good use for the books people recommend or you'll have no style or taste
>>25207892>brings up Drumpf out of nowhereMeds
>>25207726Like what most anons said in this thread. Ignore obvious bait threads, no need to bump up their retardation, jannies don't give a fuck so we try.
>>25208090you are actually incorrect.the bulk of posts are bait posts. Posts to have you continue using a social media aggregator.sowalk away. read a book.the rest is not bait, its psy ops. a horde set in motion without their own knowledge.See: >>25208238 for example.
>>25207730I'd say Tommy Pinecone and schoolyard insults go hand in hand, though I miss the in-depth discussion sometimes.I have no idea why Gaddis provoked any hate. I get Ruggles, I get Corncob, but Gaddis?I'm at least thankful that Joyce is untouched.
>>25208299i touched Joyce and he farted
