Why aren't you reading wuxia? Start reading. There aren't physical copies of them yet but you can find them on the internet.
Especially Jin Yong. Don't mistake it for xianxia, those modern light web novel cultivation wankery slop.
You're genuinely missing out if you aren't.

Wuxia: Martial art, sword art, internal energy, brotherhood, chivalry, romance.
Xianxia: Immortals, deities, cultivation, lone wolf, sigma male, doesn't afraid of anything, no romance.

Blatantly shilling my passion cause something compels me to.

I'll check it out, but I read danmei xianxia. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation? Fave.
>>
Isn't it basically Chinese adolescent power fantasy wank like shonen and isekai or whatever.

yes

Xianxia spoiled me. I don't feel like reading a story that's neither realistic nor completely unreasonable. What's the point of learning martial arts for decades if you can't even destroy the planet?

>Why aren't you reading wuxia?
I'm not a retarded faggot.

Post some recs anon

I have only read Jin Yong's so far and I doubt it will ever get better. There's Sentimental Swordsman, Ruthless Sword from Gu Long which I'm sure is very good.
There's also Liang Yusheng. These three are the tripods of wuxia.
I don't know if you should go from bad to good or good to bad, eat the best first or save it for last.
To get the right impression, I suggest you start from the Condor Trilogy, his other works can have subversions.

That's a misconception. I had the same impression too before I went into it. There's no grueling training arcs throughout the whole story. The closest it came to is with Guo Jing, but it makes sense with him as he is a talented but slow kind of guy.
The martial setting is for the characters and story, not the other way around. It's not about being the strongest guy out there although the stories revolves around those figures and often get to that level.

Wuxia is just a shitty chinese drama.

If it’s Chinese martial arts, there is no point in learning them while living in a world with guns and nukes outside of general self-defence and hand to hand combat stuff. But if your goal is to not destroy the world but transcend it via Buddhism, then it’s a different story.
>>
>>25212435
It's a fantasy setting, training in martial arts let's you fight hand to hand as well as thow fireballs and shoot ice arrows. Transcensing is also normally done via Daoism.

Legends of the Condor Heroes is a masterpiece, the LoTR of Wuxia.
>>
>>25212477
It's lame.

Legends of the Condor Heroes was officially released in four volumes not too long ago. The translation is probably at fault for the wooden tone and the annoying feeling that there are too many tedious fight scenes filled with characters making moves with fancy names at pressure points with fancy names constantly interrupting the plot that actually is somewhat interesting even if the characters aren't particularly likable.

Legends of the Condor Heroes was a lot more humorous than I expected though. I wonder how many jokes I missed because I hadn't read any wuxia before.

The funniest guys are those Xingxiu sect guys from Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. It's also has a very heavy Christian theme when it's supposed to carry a Buddhist theme, it's amazing.
I would say you can't fully enjoy the ending without this revelation.

Can someone explain this to me? Is Danmei Xianxia an author? A genre?
>>
>>25214430
Danmei is yaoi and xianxia is Chinese epic fantasy
>>
>>25214430

They are about the ONLY literary people outside the west and ancient. It's a brand new untapped world out there.
