It felt like the ending was intentionally written as an anti-climax. No heroes. No dramatic death. No dad arc. Just depressing…
It was. It was intentionally showing that in the end individual heroics, struggles, and battles do not bear on larger historic forces. This was in deliberate contravention of prevailing military space opera traditions.
