He's supposed to be one of the three Victorian prophets (along with Carlyle and Arnold). I'm already familar with Carlyle and Arnold, but I'm only vaguely familar with Ruskin.

Modern Painters is the only i've partially read from him. Someone mentioned Stones of Venice already.
As you can tell these are books about art so somewhat unlike Carlyle.
