I enjoy reading VNs more than books. What is your opinion on this matter?

I did. Not anymore though. They’re rather amateurish and juvenile in comparison. There are a couple I look back on and think, yeah they’re pretty good. Namely Subahibi and Muramasa.

I loved Umineko like 14 years ago but I absolutely hate it now when I, on a nostalgia trip of sorts thought I’d read/play it again, it was cringe inducing.

in the future all classic novels will be vn-ified with soapy soundtracks and full visuals

what i want now are audiobooks that i pay for that contain text so i can read along for the 1/10 hours that i'm not at work/driving when i want to stare at my phone while listening

VNs serve a bit of a different role than books. VNs, because they contain music and (sometimes) voice acting, fuck with your ability to appreciate rhythm. If you try to read Melville, Nabokov, or any other prose stylists with music playing in the background, it'll fuck up your enjoyment of the text. Great prose and music simply do not mix together. You can make an audiobook out of them, there's an excellent Ulysses one, and the I heard Gass read the entirety of his Tunnel, but if you try to read them with music blaring in the background, you'll have a bad time.
That said, simple prose, one that doesn't put much emphasis on rhythm - so typically non-fiction and genre fiction - pairs well with music. In fact, music can enhance its emotional qualities. I'd love to see an adaptation of TBK into a VN; an already highly emotional book, it could potentially be a better experience than the original if executed well. The common criticism of 'bad prose' would be subsumed into the more general experience of a VN, masked by great voice acting performances, matching music, and illustrations. And while VNs are a genre that originated in Japan, you're not obligated to use anime-style illustrations, you can explore other styles. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q2yenPypPU.
