That's it. That's the post.
>>
I don't get how this guy says he's influenced by Clarke. You'd never see writing this fucking awful, snarky and quippy in Clarkes works, but Weir is just a total fag about it.
>>
I went to see the movie with my brother and his family (because I’m a pathetic loner) and it was very reddit but it was okay, actually. The book looks fucking dreadful however.
>>
Textbook Ressentiment

Nietzsche speaks of this
>>
>>25217337
I'd say he's influenced by Joss Whedon more like.
>>
>>25217341
No he doesn’t. Have you even read him?
>>
>>25217282
No, theyre not ignored enough
>>
>>25217472
No. did you?
>>
>>25217494
No.
>>
>>25217339
The story is a lot of fun, the writing is terrible.
>>
>>25217282
>misused technical terminology
>retarded character ignorant in the Doctrines of Science makes a grand oversimplification
>the Science-prophet makes a snide and condescending remark using little words the retarded non-initiate can understand
Forget quips, I feel like every conversation in every tv show for the past like 15 years has followed this exact formula, it's insufferable. It's like these writers have never interacted with someone they believed to be of equal or greater intelligence than them.
>>
>>25217436
And he'll be as forgotten as Whedon.
>>
>>25217633
That's like 66% of the jokes in The Big Bang Theory
>>
I see more Weir haters online than I do fans
>>
>>25217678
>>
>I science'd the shit out of that thing!
Weir is so cringe it hurts. There are people online complaining about "all the science."
>>
>>25217282
I don't get the joke. How does the alien know about poking things with sticks and why does he think of stick when he says nanosyringe?
>>
All I've heard about it is that it has scientifically accurate space travel, and that's rare in sci-fi.
>>
>>25217986
Hackwork.
>>
>>25218000
>scientifically accurate space travel
Is that what you read sci-fi for? To see how accurate to current science it is?
>>
>>25218400
That's just the trend. People are tired of Star Wars
>>
>>25217282
IIRC, the next two lines get even better!
>It took you two days to poke it with a stick?
>You... shush!

I thought it was okay. I liked the overall concept and plot, I was satisfied with the conclusion, I liked some of the characters like Stratt and Rocky. But the dialogue and MC were annoying. The twist was interesting, but it just made me like the MC even less. I was fine with the MC being human rather than some gigachad action hero, but he came off as too whiny and emotional.

>>25217986
It's the MC and his boss before he went to space, two humans.
>>
>>25217282
Is this a Marvel book?

Quirk chungus moment
>>
>>25218400
Hard scifi fags are a plague upon scifi.
>>
>>25218557
I doubt that. Star Wars isn't even Star Wars anymore. Seems like all the sci fi shit that comes out is more "hard" than "Star Wars" these days yet rarely do people buy into it.

You're stuck with corny Gen X and Millennial writers because Gen Z are too illiterate and brain fried to make any meaningful waves in literature.

This is your punishment for being collectively dumb as fuck. Enjoy.
>>
>>25217282
...damn. I haven't read it yet but i'm kind of regretting buying it now. There are few things i hate more in media than reddit-tier dialogue. Can someone tell me if the book has too much of that?
>>
"The space alien's right behind me, isn't he?"
Astraea elbowed me viciously in the groin.
Oh right, I thought through blinding tears. "The space alien's right behind me, isn't SHE?"
>>
>>25219087
Oh you have no idea.
>>
>>25217641
Whedon only wishes he was forgotten.
>>
>>25217339
I saw the movie and read the book. They deleted 90% of the reddit “comedy” at least and added some somber tones absent from the book.
>>
We can also post poorly written femoid slop all day too. Y'all foids need to sit your asses down.
>>
>>25219435
Even Sarah J Mass is better than Andy Weir.
>>
>>25219489
Let's not go that far.
>>
>>25219430
Yeah I felt pretty bad for goose’s character at certain points actually.
>>
>>25219521
Compare any passages between them.(I haven't read SJM but I can't imagine it being worse).
>>
>>25217282
>>25217633
What's wrong with this passage? It's perfectly fine, I even chuckled a little.
>>
>>25219656
I'd rather not read books about being attracted and fucked by men.
