Just ordered this. What am I in for?
>>25217716Read the Ratzinger book first
>>25217718I have no idea what you are talking about
Should've went with the Heidelberg Catechism, or the Westminster Larger Catechism
>>25217716the beliefs of the catholic churchi like the line about only those who endure to the end receiving everlasting life
>>25217926>i like the line about only those who endure to the end receiving everlasting lifeThat's scripture, not the work of a papist.
You shouldn't be allowed within 5000 feet of any children.
>>25217716Read it in conjunction with the Catholic Bible. The Catechism is a consolidated text of the official interpretation of holy scripture and tradition by the Catholic Church, and it is what you are expected to believe in and follow if you are a Catholic. Whenever the Bible seems to apparently contradict itself, the Catechism shall guide you.
Its always amusing when Catholics drop the mask.and straight up tell you that they value the words of their church fathers more than the actual word of God.
>>25217716>The relationship of the Church with the Jewish People. When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish People, 326 "the first to hear the Word of God." 327 The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant. To the Jews "belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ", 328 "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable." 329
>>25218665Heretical trash. Burn it!
>>25218665>>25218667what exactly is wrong here?
>>25218669It is implicitly dispensational. The Jews rejected Christ, and therefore reject the New Covenant. They have no claim to a Covenant with God outside Christianity.
>>25217716Vatican II slop
>>25217716It is a little bit complicated if you don't have some philosophical grounding. I would recommend getting the Catechism written by Peter Kreeft. This Catechism was meant to be a material to write other books.
>>25218434The Bible is a collection of very old books written in a different culture in a different language. The Church Fathers are very good guides in how to understand the Bible and the doctrines that are not in the Bible.
>>25217716500 pages of tendentiousness by committee. it would be meaningless except that the pope demands that you respect his authoritah. read the summa theologiae and the lectures of fulton sheen
>>25217758>Should've went with the Heidelberg Catechism, or the Westminster Larger Catechism
>>25217716stinky cheese man ass cover
The problem with Catholicism is that they don't believe in God so much as they believe in the church. It's not the same thing despite the surface similarities.
>>25217722Pope Ratziner’s book Introduction to Christianity
>>25217716Pedophilia apologism.
This is what led me to give up on Catholicism for good. The teachings on hell and original sin were what I found most absurd.
>>25219305Protestants say the weirdest things.>>25219380It is a very hard book and some of it can be interpreted as heterodox-y. Not a very good introduction, It was not meant for beginners. His Jesus of Nazareth series is great.
The bickering is so annoying. I hate online converts. I'm not sure i understand protestants on a macro history scale. Your home gets invaded and you're brutally forced to stop believing all the stories you grew up with and that the nice faries your grandpa told you about are actually evil and that if you keep believing this stuff they will murder you and its not even considered murder under the new beliefs. So you go along with it then a relatively small amount of time later you say you know what we don't want to be ruled by romans anymore so we're just going to keep believing and following the majority of their rules but uh...our way..Honestly a return to paganism would make more sense. No I'm not making some catholic point.
>>25219651We are in an online world, having people convert due to content they see online makes total sense. Someone who becomes Orthodox due to a tiktok edit, then reads the bible and becomes a catechumen is as valid and genuine as someone who is a cradle Orthodox.
>>25219822Yeah thats not what I implied at all and I don't care about that and have no issue with anything you said
>>25219837Then you should stop hating online converts
>>25219844I don't
>>25219844They're only converting because contrarians made it fashionable not to be an atheist. To them, Christianity is chryselephantine triptychs and ornate architecture. It's all pictures to them. They feel /punk/ doing it because it's been mildly subversive to be religious. It's absolutely retarded.
>>25217716I am most of the way through it presently and found it very shallow and disappointing. I am prevaricating between Catholicism and Orthodoxy and previously read The Mystic Theology of the Eastern Church and found that way more compelling and thoughtful. The Catechism feels like an instruction manual for the publicly educated.
I just don't like any Christian church anymore.
>>25219913>The Catechism feels like an instruction manual for the publicly educated. That's more or less its purpose. It is a sourcebook so that bishops can write their own material to the laity. It is a very important book, honestly. There are other books if you want something else.
