Are there any good books that are purely comedies? Not black comedies or books with comedic elements Do non English people like PG Wodehouse
>>25221784No book can be an absolutely pure comedy, if by "absolutely pure" you mean, "absolutely divorced from those aspects of reality that are not comic". To do that you would have to leave reality behind altogether, and you can't do that in literature. PGW probably gets about as close as anyone can.Off-hand, the nearest I can think of to PGW is— The Importance Of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde)You have the same world of people with no real worries but lots of absurd ones. Also, much as with PGW, the language is the real hero. Felicitous phrasing is all.>Not black comedies or books with comedic elementsA few books almost entirely carefree in tone:— Three Men In A Boat (Jerome K. Jerome)— Puckoon (Spike Millilgan)— No Bed for Bacon (Caryl Brahms and S. J. Simon)A few short stories:— The Loaded Dog (Henry Lawson)— The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County (Mark Twain)— The War With The Fnools (Philip K. Dick)

>>25221910Thanks anon. I guess what i was thinking was books light hearted comedies. Plenty of books have very funny scenes or characters but usually its not the core of the book as it were. I'll check out your suggestions. 3 men in a boat is a classic read that a while back>>25221913I am not a father... im not allowed to read this
depends on your definition of good, or your definition of what constitutes pure comedy.I guess Terry Pratchett is too pedestrian for your tastes?
