Here I am reading this wonderful nonfiction book and learning about fascinating shit that was happening in fin de siècle Vienna like the construction of the Ringstraße, obscure but surprisingly influential politicians like Karl Lueger and Georg von Schönerer and the intellectual and artistic currents that defined the epoch and milieu.Meanwhile fictioncels are wowed by made-up places like the Shire or Oceania and impressed by ridiculous characters like Tom Bombadil or Deckard or whatever.I get the impression that fictioncels are easily bedazzled by two-dimensional characters and paper-thin world-building. Sad.
