Balzec and Stephen King have proven that, to be a prolific and popular writer, you need to consume near-lethal amounts of stimulants.

Meth literally gives you superpowers of learning, production, and sexual marathons. God I miss it so much.

Bullshit. All that'll give you is a broken sleep schedule

Even better, more time to write

It's not necessary. But it helps, certainly.

1) Be an early riser
2) Have a routine and replicable method
3) Have a job that won't suck your time and soul

Dunno about that. They might have proven that it's possible to take stimulants and be a prolific and popular author. How about looking at a few other very prolific & popular guys? See if they followed the same strategy?

Off-hand, I can think of

Erle Stanley Gardner — wrote about 80 Perry Mason novels and a load of other stuff (some under pseudonyms)

Georges Simenon — wrote a billion Maigret novels. Dunno how many but it was a lot

G. K. Chesterton — Clive James said something like "It's hard to read all of GKC because he wrote faster than most people can read". He wrote books full of essays as well as regular newspaper columns. Plus the Father Brown short stories and a bunch of novels and quite a bit of verse.

Another thing to remember is that loads of these guys wrote endless letters. (H. P. Lovecraft is a particularly notorious example. I forget the total but it's some absurd number, like 100,000. Most of his human interaction was via letters. Basically he lived on the internet before there was internet.)

Why does the universe hate night owls?
>>
>>25225490
People used to go to bed after sunset and then wake up for a few hours in the middle of the night before going back to bed till dawn.
Those few hours were the productive thinking hours but industrial standardization forced us all to a schedule.
The factory took the night owl's sacred time from you and made it a sin.

I drink ten cups of coffee a day and smoke profusely either in cigarette or vape form.
