So this one time I went to a bookstore on a search for the most literary book. Something that would blow the minds of everyone on /lit/. A book that would make even the most performative of male readers pee in their huggies. First I went to the classics section and browsed the bookshelves there from top to bottom, scrutinizing every novel there. I looked at all the big names: War and Peace, The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Miserables, The Brothers Karamazov. And these were all long and literary, but everybody reads those books. I needed something special, something that would knock everybody's socks off, not just any literary book but the most literary book. Next I went to the contemporary fiction aisle, thinking surely I'll find what I'm looking for in some post-modern encyclopedic circle jerk. Here too my eyes perused all of the standards of the genre: Infinite Jest, Gravity's Rainbow, JR. There was nothing wrong with these literary books either but it was still lacking something, still lacking that je ne sais quoi. But then, I finally laid eyes upon what I was looking for. A novel in seven parts all collected together in a shrink-wrapped box set. There was only one on the shelf and it took up a good quarter of the shelf all to itself. I hefted my prize up and headed for the checkout counter, not believing my supreme luck in having discovered what I was looking for: the most literary book. The massive tomes slammed onto the countertop despite my efforts to set it there gently, although I must admit that I didn't put in too much effort, I did want to show off after all. The girl at the register didn't look as impressed as I thought she should, however, so I rested an elbow on top of the box set I was purchasing and told her with a smug grin on my face, "I'm something of a reader and I'm glad I was able to find this monument to literature in your store today." She barely glanced at me while ringing up the total and said, "It's not that literary."

i am jewish and live in a desi neighborhood in nyc. a few years ago, i wanted to learn some bangla in hopes of ingratiating myself to my local kebab men. i went to the union square barnes & noble language section to go look for a bangla learning workbook, and at the same shelf i met a bangladeshi man who was there looking for a hebrew learning book. go figure.

This is my yesterday's haul
>The Cat
>Shadow and evil in fairy tales
>Animus and anima in fairy tales
>The feminine in fairy tales
For some reason I went to the 2nd floor and approached the counter straight away in order to ask for where Marie-Louise was shelved as if implored by some sense of urgency to do so, even though most of their wares were on the base level of the store.
A few weeks back I had dreamt of being led into a room by a young blonde woman, whom I had thought was Saber in my dream, presented to a wise old man and told I could ask any question, yet I stumbled at my own sense of ignorance. The blonde woman continuously looked at me as if to convey permission without words, as if to allow allowance itself.
I divulge this dream because at the store counter which I urgently approached stood this young blonde lady. Nothing of importance happened in our interaction, besides me being directed towards the appropriate rack, yet a part of me remained immensely satisfied for the rest of the day. I also wasn't sure which books to get so I read through the Contents of each and tried to make an instinctual decision with as little thought involved(yet I couldn't settle for less than 4). Any Jungians, what am I in for?

I was in this lovely old little library hidden in a side street of the city centre, and there were a lot of old tomes in there, primarily philosophy books which appealed to me, ran by old, clearly studious fellow who never entered the 21st century; so all around, it was the epitome of quaint. I’m there looking for stuff on Schelling since I couldn’t find his works anywhere and this was some 25 years ago, I was about 20, and there’s this really cute European proto /lit/ girl in there, she approached me and we were talking for a while; she was a Nietzsche enjoyer, and I hadn’t read anything at that point by him, so I was asking about where to start, anyway, it’s all really fuzzy now, but we hit it off, she was much more attractive and cultured than my girlfriend at the time, and she asked if I wanted to go and get something to drink with her after leaving, I declined because I was in a relationship. I’m a fucking retard, I should have just said yes, and broke up with my girlfriend who I actually had a shitty relationship with. I’m pathetic too since it was longer ago than some of you here have even been alive, at least I’m not Dante.

You need to go to college towns to find good used bookstores. I stuck around the place I went to college. There's a Value Village a short while from where I live and the book section always looks like a professor just died and had an estate sale. I might have to go there today now that I think about it.

Women with fat butts are never the talkative ones, in my experience. They are always preoccupied straining to muffle farts, I suppose. As it happens if I were still one to wear green Doc Marten's and baggy denim, one of these women may tell me they like it. And from there I must seize upon the act of analyzing her to reciprocate with compliment, but more importantly open-ended inquiry . . .
In truth, expecting a woman to discuss literature is an impossibility, seeing as they do not actually read, but merely see the words on the page thing-y.

Is that so? I would have thought the mass of her buttcheeks would be naturally working to keep her butthole sealed up, but I suppose that could cause an intense buildup in pressure resulting in some particularly loud and explosive farts instead of small and silent ones.

Took this girl out on valentine's day at my local library. They had a special opening where they showed you the usually off limits rooms with all the frescos. We shared laughs and bonded while looking at gorgeous late medieval/early modern editions of the divine comedy and Orlando furioso. She commented in passing that we should have met earlier in life. After going to a winery for a drink we parted ways with a hug and she went back to her place where her boyfriend was studying for his thesis. I went to the pub to watch rugby and then home to jerk off and go to sleep alone amd aching for love

I went to a local bookstore in my town a couple months ago (that I have gone to many times before). It actually has a decent selection. I usually browse the classic science fiction section, although I do occasionally detour to the classics section or find some postmodernist authors. I went 1.5 hours before closing and it was way busier than normal. I realized soon that there was higher foot traffic than normal because of the 'no kings' protest that was going on downtown. Normally this place is a ghost town with 1-2 people in it. Yet, I heard the owner say to someone they wanted to shut the store down an hour early to join the protest. I thought he just meant it in a 'yeah, wish I could, but I gotta do my job type of thing". Then, 1 hour before the real closing time, I realized I was the only one in the store left and he was starting to close windows and doors. I hurried out quickly after, and then he locked the door behind me.

I didn't really care that the owner kinda pushed me out or that he has bad politics. What I was surprised by was that this seemed like one of his best days of the year to stay open and actually make money, but he closed it down! Bookstores are unironically just run by rich hobbyists I think. Our economy is fundamentally broken.

One time I walked into a Barnes and Noble washroom and there was an obviously just-used pornographic magazine lying on the floor taken out the plastic wrap on the floor and there was shit and toilet paper in the can and jizz all over the toilet seat and magazine and the wall. I went and got the manager. This was right before closing too.

Literally what is the point of Barnes and Noble for shopping books? When I find a book on Amazon, its more than likely on sale than paying for full price in that store.
Also, most people don't socialize in that store. What exactly is the purpose of going there?
