Who do you prefer /lit/? Which is the best girl? Anne Sexton or Sylvia Plath?
Marianne Moore.
>>25228799>Haggard Whore VS. Nubile Psycho BPD Bitch
>>25228820Unflattering pic but Sexton is easily the prettier one
>>25228799>Which is the best girl?— Better writer: PLATHSexton is largely just a watered-down Plath, doing everything five years later. Of course they were both in the same creative writing class (taught by Lowell) but I suspect Sexton "was influenced by" (copied) Plath directly.— Better bonk bunny: SEXTONI get the impression Plath was relatively uninterested in sex. Many aggressive masculine-brained women are like this — Florence Nightingale, for example. They just sublimate it. (Fun indoor sport: in a poetry discussion with four or five feminists, mention casually that Ted Hughes's infidelity was Plath's fault because a woman should know how to keep her man home, hard and happy.) Whereas AS was a real hot momma.— Better mother: NEITHERSexton supposedly did some questionable things to her kids. Plath wrote poems about how much she loved them and then abandoned them when they needed her the most.>>25228820Those picture are not fair. SP is right at high school graduation or something, with flattering lighting and expression. AS is fifteen years (and a lot of vodka, cigarettes and extra-marital affairs) older.Sexton was much more attractive than Plath. <Pic attached> is a more reasonable equivalent of the Plath pic.
>>25228830>>25228857I concede.I'd pick anyone over Plath anyhow. That bitch can speedrun ruining your literary legacy from beyond the grave.
Emily Dickinson
>>25228814>Marianne Moore>>25228907Emily DickinsonTechnically these are legitimate answers since OP asked for "best girl", but I think he actually meant "better girl", i.e. you were meant to choose between the two he suggested. If you want "best girl" out of everyone, the boring answer everyone gives is the right one: it's <pic>.
>>25228912Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm You think? I like the yank Emily more but I can’t argue with that. The two in the OP are equally bad.
>>25228857Wow, I was going to say Plath but changed my mind after seeing this - Sexton is so fit in this photo.
>>25228857>Ted Hughes's infidelity was Plath's fault because a woman should know how to keep her man home, hard and happy.well, if he married a non-sexual woman expecting sex, that's kinda on him desuagree with you on everything else though, but I'm still going Plath
a hot chick just sent me a whatsapp voice message should i listen to it now or save it for later?
>>25228799As someone who has not yet read either author could someone suggest a work frim both? Seems like Plath in particular has a following with men. Is it her content or also because she was somewhat attractive?
>>25228949Must hurt seeing that every day and not being able to touch her.I wonder what's the male equivalent of being unfuckable for intangible reasons. If you take away looks and skill issues, there's probably still a few things left.
>>25228966for sure lol. I don't know anything about why she didn't like sex so I can't speak to it, but my best guess based on some female friends is that sex with most men is a pretty one-sided experience and feels bad, or just that the sort of emotional/social dynamics surrounding sex are so hard to navigate that you just say fuck it all. I've met incel men who claim to be proud of their virginity and it seems very rooted in the latter. My male best friend irl just doesn't like sex. He has sex with his girlfriend sometimes but it's just because she likes it. Seems way more rare in men but I have met a few.
>>25228799I prefer when women shut the fuck up.
Per me, è la Campo.
>SP and TH both in the 'logThe fuck is going on?
>>25228989Genuinely he should check his hormone levels. True for asexual women as well. People act like it’s personality but give your friend a shot of t in the ass and he will be trying to fuck every woman he comes across and maybe some men as well.
>>25228949>if he married a non-sexual woman expecting sex, that's kinda on himSHE'D GIVE IT UP FOR TYRONE HUGHES SO WHY NOT TED? WHY NOT HER TEDDY BEAR? FUCKING HARLOT!
>>25228799And then one day for no reason at all I baked myself and my kids.
>>25228799only femcel chuds need apply
>>25230058trvke, femcels actually have to be talented
>>25228949>home, hard and happy>hardWhat did she mean by this??
>>25228799Sexton and this isn't even a challenge
>>25228799I prefer repealing the 19th
>>25228799Idk anne Sexton but I really hate Sylvia plath. She is narcissism personified. The Bell Jar is frankly, a disgusting book. Imagine if your mother wrote hundreds of pages of "boohoo, my life" then killed herself, and every hipster white woman forever, was like wow so profound
>>25230796Nobody cares what you think, brownie.
>>25230806Lmao. If only you knew. Myopia certainly is a bitch.
>>25230796I agree. It's a bizarre, daring book, The Bell Jar, but it's spiritual poison. More so than her poetry. Plath has ruined the minds of far too many women. Her legacy is vile, and her family knew it would be, which is why they didn't want her work published in the first place.
>>25230796>Imagine if your mother wrote hundreds of pages of "boohoo, my life" then killed herselfSure . . . but Sexton followed this basic career trajectory too.>and every hipster white woman forever, was like wow so profoundIt's true that Plath has a larger and more annoying fanbase. The ones who like to be a little different might have a Sexton volume on the shelf too, though.I suppose we could take this opportunity to help out any art-hoe who happens to be browsing. She might not be aware of the range of role-models available.SUICIDAL 20TH-CENTURY FEMALE POETS: A CUT-OUT-AND-KEEP GUIDELEVEL ONE: Sylvia PlathEveryone knows about SP. Most liberal arts graduates are so thoroughly steeped in the lore of Saint Sylvia that they've even memorized the titles of two or three of her poems. You'll need to find a slightly quirky take if she's all you've got. For example, enthusiastic praise of her children’s book "The It-Doesn’t-Matter Suit" will leave your listener puzzled but impressed.LEVEL TWO: Anne SextonShe followed in SP’s footsteps, more or less, which should be an inspiration for septum-pierced girls everywhere. HEALTH WARNING: Chain-smoking is more or less de rigueur for the serious Anne Acolyte.LEVEL THREE: Sara TeasdaleA generation earlier than the previous ladies (she did the deed in 1933) so you get points for historical awareness. If asked to actually quote something she wrote, intone the following:“There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,And swallows circling with their shimmering sound . . . "and fade away wistfully as if the rest of the poem is more-or-less a given part of any civilized person's mental furniture.LEVEL FOUR: Alejandra PizarnikFor advanced students only. To start with you'll need to learn how to pronounce her name, and good luck with that. KEY STRATEGY: If asked to quote something she wrote, just say that "she really doesn't translate well into English", which suggests that you *could* quote her if you wanted, and simultaneously leaves your listener with the impression that you're fluent in Spanish.LEVEL FIVE: Marina TsvetaevaSimilar caveat with the name-pronunciation thing. Unlike the previous entries on this list, Marina actually had a legitimately tough life, but it’s hard to get into the details without criticizing some aspects of Joesph Stalin's domestic policy, and that's a bit bourgeois for the persona you're trying to cultivate. Still, if you can negotiate this minefield successfully, you've got it made.
>>25231023Impressive, anon. You've managed to create a list of five of the most wretched female writers of all time (in a good way).
>>25230997>spiritual poisonIm an old man. New buzzword droppin?
