Getting published just means you have to put in the time and effort to figure out how to accomplish your goals as a writer in a way that is salable, which is a good thing if you want to be read and hardly a concession if you are much of a writer, only an issue for plotfags and the incompetent. Biggest advantage is that it means you get to spend your time writing instead of dealing with the buisness of publishing and printing.

you are still fully responsible for marketing your book with a publisher. sometimes you can't get the changes you want done and it takes months. meanwhile I can design and release a book on KDP in less than a week.

I'll be running into a problem soon on where to publish my smut for cash. I'm currently thinking of releasing chapters of my book on places like Literotica and others to build a readership. I've had some success in getting readers for a few chapters of a story I started some years ago, but never revisited. My current book is around 75% finished, I just need to write the final act and maybe two more sex scenes.

I have very limited space in my house and am embarrassed by my work and actively hiding my manuscript from my wife. Print doesn't really make sense anyway since erotic books are more sold in digital format these days, and the distributors can send the copies directly to their devices.

Nightmare of an idea. Reddit is also terrible, the erotic writing groups on there are just filled with bots and self-promoters that aren't willing to put in time co read other peoples' work. I wish I personally knew someone who was open to reading and giving input to my very niche scenario.

I have no friends in publishing and avoid all politics, still got published. No one has ever forced a change on me or refused a change I wanted to make, at most they tried to talk me out of it. I have never had to deal with marketing, agent and publisher send out free copies to people likely to write a review and even a short review in a small journal written by someone who only read the 5 page summary sent along with the free copy is better than a 4chan ad and spending hours shilling yourself.
