This novel broke me. I'm 27 years old now and I read it about a year ago. It made me cry and sob in a way I hadn't done since I was a small child. I was up until 3am pacing in my apartment trying to find out what went wrong with my life. I quit my job some months after that and now almost half a year later I'm still unemployed and running dangerously low on funds. Something cracked within me and I realized that I'm still living in my shithole small town, I still haven't come any closer to accomplishing anything in life, but it did do one thing for me. I decided to take writing a little more seriously. Since I read it I've written a bunch of short stories and I'll be submitting my first one for a competition in the next few days. It made me latch on to writing like nothing before and hold on to it for dear life. I'll also hopefully move out of my hometown soon. I never could have guessed a book can impact you on such a deep level. This is by far my favorite novel and I'll be recommending it to everyone from now on.
>>25232312Typical self-indulgent narcissistic navel-gazing from a twentysomething. Fucking pathetic.

>>25232319I'm pretty sure that being moved by art and then discussing it with others is the whole point but what do I know

>>25232424We like men I mean we like manly stuff like Tom Clancy, Moby Dick and Hemminnggwayy here. This is the literature board, not the talk and cry about your fee fees board despite half the threads that are up being pretty much that.
>>25232469Meant for >>25232432
>>25232312I read the Opposing Shore instead, but seeing two threads about this book in the catalog right now is making me regret it. I didn't even finish it because it was too boring.
>>25232469>>25232477Op hereI'm literally reading Hemingway right now.One thing you should know about him is that he was an incredibly emotionally sensitive man. It's why he drank so much. I recommend reading his biography.
>>25232492I know, I was joking, OP. The man killed himself as if that wasn’t enough to know. How are you liking him?
>>25232327Cause you need to harden yourself, the world doesn't give a damn about you or me and acting like a baby just makes it worse for yourself.
>>25232501I love Hemingway's stories. He has had a deep influence on me since I was a child. I just re-read The Undefeated. I also relate to him in a deep way since I grew up in an eastern European household. The kind where crying got you a beating and the more you cried the more you got beaten. I think any man that grew up in a tradition household can relate to him.
>>25232312The novel The tartar steps or something is about hussling and grinding and living in the big city
>>25232312okay fine I'll get this off aa
