What's the worst Black Library book ever conceived?
>>25237452>black library >not one book about BOC>and I don't mean Blue Oyster Cult or Boards Of Canada
The entire Horus Heresy series. Ghastly rigamarole with amateurish writing unbecoming of what it pretends to be and also playing the role as some of the first and strongest seeds to the bullshit we see these days in Warhammer's setting in general like the post 7th ed Return of Guilliman Marvel-ification of the IP with muh marines and muh primarchs acting like action focused superheros instead of actual soldiers while the imperium gets increasingly whitewashed into just armored cool guys to appeal to mainstream audiences who might be alienated to a setting with the whole shtick being "everyone is a bad guy" where they cant really project onto anyone due to every last one being a complete lunatic, corrupt asshole, outright malicious or all of them at the same time and thus dont feel as personally attached to a product they cant project themselves onto. This is also what led to all the woke things everyone complains about these days. Really all the pieces were set in place as soon as the first 3 HH books did well
>>25237468Are there any 40k books you feel are true to its spirit? I haven’t read any yet
>>25237488The Caiphas Cain books are pretty good. Most of the other series are very forgettable.
>>25237490Thanks anon
>>25237488As the other anon mentioned the Cain books are great, Gaunt's Ghosts as well. Generally anything released before 2010 tends to have a higher grit to it but there are some good books released after that gap.
>>25237468>rigamarole you keep using this word on every thread, stop it.
Is the Fulgrim book any good or is Fulgrim like Angron in The Red Angel where he's more of a force of nature?
>>25237490Cain for humour, Eisenhorn for serious stuff.
>>25237531That word always makes me think of pasta.>would you like some ghastly rigamarole with tomato sauce or alfredo?
>>25237488The Dark Coil
>>25237490Bahaha they are the definition of slop. Holy fuck how does this board manage to 100 percent predict bad taste. It's uncanny.
>>25237488wdym true to its spirit? Bottom of the barrel trash IS 40k's spirit.
>>25237555I read one and it thought it was pretty bad but the only Warhammer books i read before was konrad and beasts in velvet.
>>25237456Based Saurus enjoyer. Also Gotrek and Felix novels > anything 40k related.
>>25237468Bro, you're not Nabokov!
>>25237488>Night Lords Trilogy>Storm of Iron>The Dark Coil>The Infinite and the Divine>Forges of Mars trilogy>Brutal Kunnin'>Helsreach>Vaults of Terra trilogy>Gaunt's Ghosts>Eisenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin>Double Eagle>Day of Ascension These were all pretty good
can we have a crumb of xenos lore? I mean holy fuck
>>25237890>>Brutal Kunnin'Mike Brooks is dogshit
>>25237555One of the worst BL books and more of a BT book than an EC book.
>>25237914The only xenos book I moderatly enjoyed was Elemental Council though I heard the non Brooks ork ones can be pretty entertaining
>>25238040The Infinite and the Divine was pretty entertaining, which imo is all 40k books need to do. Unfortunately the battles which many books feature heavily are dull by definition.Besides that, Gaunt's Ghosts novels are okay. I liked Legion from HH because it was so Shakespearean. It might actually be my favorite 40k book.
Is there any book that is specifically about the adeptus mechanicus?
>>25237668>a favorite between the ages 10 and 15, and thereafter
>a formidable mediocrity
>a cruel and crude old book
>>25237973Why is it bad? This any good then?
>>25237468its all about demons corrupting people who step out of line, really interesting stuff. what guilliman did wrong was delay the march to relieve terra because he was going to set up his own second empire in ultramar
>>25237452any 40k books written by top tier 40k players or actual soldiers? jrr tolkiens middle earth wars had some problems but george rape rape martins wars are utter bullshit
>>25239023Henry Zou was former Australian army and put a lot of that and actual counterinsurgency warfare tactics into his books. He was also good at showing Imperial cultures based on Earth cultures you don't see in the rest of 40k - Iraqis, Cajuns, Papua New Guineans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, etc and how that would interact with more mainstream British/German/Greco-Roman-based Imperial culture troops. Then he was caught plagiarizing some lines from real life soldier's war memoirs and got blacklisted. Damn shame.
>>25238217This and Dominion Genesis are pretty good
>>25237555>>25237973Yeah I don't recommend if you like Fulgrim or the Emperor's Children. I don't know what they were thinking
>>25237468At least a few of the best 40K books are Horus Heresy books. Certainly the best Horus Heresy books are in the same tier as the best 40K era books.
