Is there a good reason to read political theory if you are not a politician, or maybe a political content creator? Would reading political philosophy benefit me in anyway?
pic not quite related kek

For pleasure, to sate one's curiosity

Plato's Republic actually adresses this specific question, go read it.

You already have your answer. Unless it's explicitly related to your job (Politician, diplomat, state bureocrat, content farming) or your special interest it's more than likely that you're just going to be miserable every time you go drinking with someone and hear them spout vivid bullshit but you dont wanna ruin the mood and cant go on an autistic rant about the subject, already kinda feeling that since I recently started working as a historian and I wouldnt call myself a particularly knowledgeable one either, a very dumb one at that, but the average shmuck's understanding of humanities is gut wrenching
And lets be fair here that unless you are affiliated to some kind of party or work with something relating strongly to politics the only time you're likely to bring it up is for internet and IRL banter
Or you could just find studying it fun and getting all those insights to be a fun thing to do that's fair

To be a good citizen. To become immune to manipulation. To strengthen your fellow-citizens.

Theoretically, if you live in a democratic society, it is your civic duty to be rationally well-informed about politics.
>>
the subject is a lifetime of research just to see no meaningful change in the world

reading political theory is like being that le science guy watching space movies with friends and constantly pointing out how unscientific the movie is
but at least with that you can somewhat avoid watching movies and not be that guy, but with politics everyone talks about it all the time
unless you're willing to be kicked out of 109 friendships don't do it

bizarre post

Bold of you to assume anon's here have so many friendships.

Maybe it will help you to understand le society. However, and this is purely anecdotally, everybody i know IRL who is casually into politics is an insufferable, miserable git.

It will enable clearer discussion (especially Plato and Aristotle and Adam Smith) because instead of re-inventing the wheel and stumbling over something you just begin to see in your mind, you can use the proper vocabulary for important concepts, and your audience will get you on the first try.
