I am looking for a series that is progression fantasy or adjacent where the main character ends up grappling with the ethics of power and realities of immortality / pseudo-immortality. I don't want any soft-hearted garbage where the author shoves the dick of altruism down my throat like your mom's strap-on, but I also don't want an unhinged psychopath. I want genuinely good writing. I don't care if it's sexually explicit; I'd actually welcome some of that although I'm not looking for straight up porn. I enjoy self-insert power fantasy but as an ancillary, not the main focus. Mainly I WANT A CHARACTER WHO EMBRACES POWER FOR ITS OWN SAKE. Here are some series I have already read in the last few years that are related to one degree or another, I do not necessarily recommend any of them:>Beginning after the End>Grimnoire Chronicles (not bad desu)>Most Bruce Sentar shit>Herald of Shalia>Cradle (beginning great, end cringe)>Millennial Mage (meh, I'll finish it)>Dungeon Crawler Carl (too much of a communist pussy but I'll finish it)>The Wheel of Time (like 4th or 5th reread)>Demon Cycle (first 3 books are great, rest is turboshit)>Heretic Spellblade>The Immortal Great Souls (I'll finish it, not bad desu)>Beware of Chicken>A Thousand Li>Super Powereds>Demon's Throne>Every Brandon Sanderson Series (takes like 3 days to finish each book but aside from 2-3 they don't deal with real power and the philosophy of it)>Dune (I reread this every few years)>A Court of Thorns and Roses (chick shit, DNF>Powder Mage>Old Man's War>Troy Rising (awesome concept but Ringo is fucking retarded and doesn't understand how levers work. Live Free or Die was genuinely good other than that.)Probably another 20-ish books and short stories. Read about 1-2 books / week. Happy to read a bunch of trash to find a gem. Happy for all recommendations. Don't give a fuck about the specific genre as long as it deals with the concepts of immortality, power, etc and doesn't wield the cock of altruism like a club. I've also read a lot of non-fiction in this time, this is just a small section of the fiction I've read recently. So much communist faggotry out there and a lot of fascist simping too. I want people who actually engage in critical thinking.
>>25240965>where the main character ends up grappling with the ethics of power and realities of immortality>Mainly I WANT A CHARACTER WHO EMBRACES POWER FOR ITS OWN SAKEThose are oxymoronic demands.Either they enjoy having power for its own sake or they're grappling with the ethics of it.
>>25241053They are not oxymoronic at all. You cannot grapple with the ethics of power if don't have any. The reason you need fiction for this is that nobody in the real world has any real power, just social power. We grapple with these ideas by constructing powerful characters in world we control, and putting them in situations that have ethical questions.
