>be me
>live in a rural town with natural beauty
>work part time (6 hours, 5 days a week)
>spend the rest of my time stoned and writing/reading

whats your excuse bros? literally easy as shit if you wanna commit
>>
>>25241880
Are you actually writing 40 hours a week though?
>>
>>25241937
yea, and then after reaching milestones I take gaps. just finished first draft of recent manuscript. letting it sit for a couple of days before I go back to edit
>>
>>25241944
I doubt that you're consistently writing 40 hours a week in that case. Assuming 30 hours of work, 40 hours of writing, and 8 hours of sleep every night, you've got exactly 42 hours to care for basic needs like cooking, eating, pissing, shitting, bathing, cleaning, commuting, and whatever else your life requires.
Maybe you are truly pulling 40 hours, but it would almost certainly be at the expense of any measure of a life outside of your job, writing and basic self-care. You almost certainly don't own your home, have a family that depends on you, have friends you spend time with, or date women. Maybe you're autistic enough for the love of writing to supplant those things for you, but I don't think it's reasonable to assume that it would for everyone else. 30 hours a week on one income doesn't generally provide for those things even in low cost of living areas.
I guess the real measure though is if it's all been worth it. You are published, right? You've actually accomplished something and haven't just been writing for a couple of months and assuming that your lifestyle is sustainable long term, right?
>>
>>25241960
Oh, and I forgot the time that you spend reading. How much does that take away from your remaining 42 hours of wakefulness?
>>
>>25241880
I was ganna write my book as an old man on my farm. What's the point now. Who are your literary influences?
>>
>>25241880
Thats cool, but if you're writing stoned I can not believe your writing is any good.

I live in Estonia.
There's no natural beauty. Only junkies, alkies, NPCs, pedos, and Russians.
You go out into nature and find needle, alcohol bottles, napkins, plastic, clothes.
Your will to do anything is sapped away by the absolute ugliness of living in such a post-Soviet shithole surrounded by soulless /pol/smart Estonian golems who can't think of anything outside Eesti, Eesti, Eesti, Eesti, oh how I fuckin love Eesti, oh look, an Estonian tourist shat in the loo in New Delhi, oh, how great we are, greatest IQ in the world, oh Eestimaa, I'm jizzing on the flag, ooooh, on one side and feral drinking meth abusing bydlo gopnik blyad Russians who make niggers look like French aristocracy on the other.
You kinda become a gnostic Buddhist. Hoping that a spiritual life will deliver you from the darkness of Estonia, either into heaven, out of it altogether, or, in the worst case possible, into a better birth. Somewhere in Western Europe, Scandinavia, US.

What about the hustle & bustle of living in a "cultural" center

All you have is junk that no literary agent will take seriously. Enjoy the LARP.

I write obscure visual novels for small niche audiences, and I make the U.S. minimum wage each month.
I've been doing this for 10 years.
I don't complain, though. I've never been into extravagant things, and I can go days without spending a single penny, so the minimum wage works out just fine for me.

I've been toying around with the idea of writing a VN. How would you say people react to purpler prose in VNs?
>>
>>25241964
>>25241960
Who cares? Why are you acting like its a fucking sin to work 30-50 hours a week and read in your free time?
>>
>>25241960
>assuming that your lifestyle is sustainable long term, right?
Definitely not, but I am not expecting to have this schedule for the rest of my life. I am in my mid 20's and have a girlfriend.

>>25242422
I don't understand why people on here post excerpts from their projects. If Dostoyevsky posted excerpts of Brothers Karamazov on here while he was writing it, half of the replies would be from assholes shitting all over it. Conversely, the same types of people would be praising it too. Validation in the form of (You)'s is pretty lame.

Kerouac, Balzac, Celine, Richard Fariña

My GF lives in a "cultural center" where homeless people shit in the street and carry around machetes. No thanks

>>25242924
Well, all I can tell you is that I am trying really hard to write something good, and actually working at it. It could be ass, because I've never written anything of this scale before. I think you should still try.

when I work more than like 16 hours a week, I find it impossible to put enough energy into thinking that I actually come up with anything truly original or enjoy the loftier peaks of the experience of having a soul. How do you manage this? I assume your job requires no intellectual effort, right?
>>
>>25245914
My job is all intellectual effort, and I think that's actually the ticket because I am prevented from thinking too much about my writing while I am at work.

I used to work 50hrs a week at a Papermill before this, and I had all the time in the world to day dream and think about my writing. I found that when I got home, I had no energy to do anything other then drink and play vidya or whatever. This isn't a really good answer, sorry brotha.
>>
>>25245914
You're lazy. Sixteen hours a week is nothing.
>>
>>25242426
>>25242168
He said "small rural town", the drug cocktail has a 100% probability of including meth which can absolutely make him write well.
>>
>work part time (6 hours, 5 days a week)
Sounds full time to me
>>
>>25246593
Full-time work is 40 hours, five days a week on site.
>>
>>25245908
>makes excuses and doesn't post excerpt
