>it's actually better than the original
>>25247624I read the book and watched the original animated film version recently to prepare for this and honestly, Animal Farm sucks. It has the same problem as 1984 where I know it's making a good point or whatever, but it's just so unbelievably dreary that it's hard to care about what it's saying.
>Le no happy ending? Le YIKES!
In high school i wrote an essay on how this book is an allegory for America and the slippery slope of racism got a B.How the fuck should I know what living in Soviet Russia feels like?
>>25247667Go back to /tv/ where you fucking belong, scum.
>>25247667I felt the same way, self-serving works of fiction are the laziest form of political critique.
>>25247624>it's actually better than the originalNo, it's just another hollywood piece of crap that deserves to be ignored. >>>/tv/
My friend is a crypto Stalinist and I love to irk her by referencing this book
>>25247667>>25247715Samefag
>>25247715What about 1984 is "self-serving"?
>>25247624/lit/ doesn’t really care about Orwell anyway, let alone a movie adaptation of his books. You’ve been told where to go, or more accurately, you’ve been told to return from whence you came
>>25247751Obviously the Goldberg thing was self-serving for Trotskyists.
>>25247624I listened to Serkis try to defend this bullshit on the Reason podcast and I revised my estimation of his IQ to about 80. It has to be "updated for modern audience", and he kept saying it was "for the kids". The book ending was too dark, in fact all the darkness has to go, and fart jokes are in. There's no horse glue factory either. You see Orwell if he were alive would have meant for the book to be about capitalism. Even weirder is that this was picked up by the Angel network which is a bunch of christcuck propaganda, generally pro-crapitalism and amerifats. Tucker Carlson is invested in this shit and promoting it. Which makes even less sense since all the anti-commie stuff is gone. I guess they didn't watch it and just assumed from the book's reputation? Everyone involved was retarded.
>>25247770No idea what you're on about
I never got the appeal of Animal Farm. It's just an oversimplified history of the Russian revolution and everyone is animals to appeal to children or something.
>>25247777The book isn't really "for kids" though is it? Where are people getting that idea?I mean you could potentially read it to a child and give them nightmares, but that's not really what it's for. It's not Winnie the Pooh.
>>25248118What is the target audience of a retelling of the Russian revolution as a fable about farm animals?
>>25247857Goldberg is supposed to be Trotsky. So is Snowball
>>25248125I would imagine 12 and up, and the very least. What is a little child ever going to get out of Animal Farm? The 1999 adaptation had the right idea, in being grim and unsettling.
THE BIG FISH EAT THE LITTLE ONENOT MY PROBLEM GIVE ME SOME
I read Animal Farm at 14. Dunno if that's an early age to read the book or what, but it was the perfect time for me.
>>25248071>what’s the significance of abook that accurately portrayed Stalinism before anyone knew what the fuck was going on over there from pure intuition Maybe he glowed, but it’s damn impressive regardless
>>25248220Let's be honest, did Napoleon the Pig industrialize the farm and set it up to become the first farm to put an animal in space?
>>25248149I think middle school is usually when it's assigned
>>25247736why are you friends with a Stalinist? are you friends with Nazis too?
>>25248220what? Animal Farm came out in 1945, in the mid 30s everyone already knew what Stalinism was about
>>25247705Orwell probably did not care how it would be interpreted fifty plus years later.
>>25248262Yes. I have been friends with white supremacists, stalinists, raging maoists, a fascist who only likes the italian version of it and third worldists
The only part of this book that genuinely bothered me was the horse (Baxter?). Bro deserved better
>>25247777the book was already about capitalism, everyone talking about how its was about le russian "revolution" (no such thing either) never read it and instead believed a decades old fake news.
>>25248128NTA but I getcha. The idea with 1984 or animal farm is not that "communism sux >:(" but rather than the system had become corrupted to the point it was indistinguishable from the same exploitation that proceed it comparing Stalinism to the inequality of industrial capitalism.I did not get that Snowball was the stand in for Trotsky, so Orwell was idealistic but also expressed his disillusion with the system, reason the endings are bleak.
>>25248270In the topic of time frames...Orwell writes in 1984 how sex can be weaponized into creating extremists and Winston strikes me as an actual Poljak and this was written in the 40s.We are seeing that again, I mean people going batshit and hatting women or even women hating me, leading them into a political persona. What the fuck was going on at the time?
>>25248666I got trips neat.I mean, I know what the world was going through in the 40s, but what was going on at the time with people? I mean it is weird a book in the 40s predicted Chudcel behavior to a tee.Good thing this is a slow board, if this was /v/ I would had been ridiculed already.
>>25248667Chuds are repressed and angry, and they're repressed and angry because someone is oppressing them, forcing them to eat shit, and publicly go along with blatant lies. This has happened often throughout history. Mad, isn't it?
