Hello folks,
i recently dropped my Mary Shelley - Frankenstein book when i found
picrel Somerset Maugham - The Magician. I really liked it !
Before that i finished Camus The Stranger and half ass read the plague afterwards...
Why am i posting ? Could you recommend me more novels please ?
Oh i also read Matthew Gregory Lewis - The Monk, and it's an absolute masterpiece, i really loved it.
Frankenstein bores me except for the part where "the creature" confronts the main protagonist and
talks about his experience, his feelings...everything else feels just stretched feels and feels....
Would you say that "Realism" and maybe some good gothic novels are my thing ? If so, what author "realism" would you recommend ?
I enjoyed the name of the rose aswell but i've watched the film like 14xx times before so reading was fun.
Stefan Zweig is currently my backup, as i plan to order few books from Somerset Maugham soon i believe...
Thank's and sorry for the long text, i think i have some autism maybe

I look like this.

What are your thoughts on The Monk? I felt underwhelmed compared to the hype (o the idea that was sold to me). There wasn't that much debauchery, say, compared to de Sade.

that 17th century guy on cover is supposed to be the character Oliver Haddo, which actually
embodys Alleister Crowley lol..in the book he's bald and a narcistic, swollen fat ass.

>thoughts on The Monk?
honestly it's a very well written book. You learn the characters by their roles, how they act etc. not how
they're described in long sentences, which gives you vivid images in your head as you read it.
I think the author was a fun guy...the way he builds scenes like it's a Leslie Nielsen movie such as:
the perfect devout and strict monk but also merciful in public...goes in his room and becomes a
insecure little boy confessing to madonna painting.
that incel moment where he's trying to take benefit of her when they pray and many other scenes..
But also takes very serious and dramatic thoughtful path....

Btw some anons are recommending the book "The Castle of Otranto" here...It's short and it's literally about nothing lol
I'd spoil the story but there's not even anything to spoil...
