>Chinese novels >Wu Lu of venerable demonic heavenly sect on 12th astral plane has lived for 300k years Why do they have such weird time spans for their characters?
>>25253690Chinks are stupid.
They understand an immortal, venerable sage-like figure should view "deep time" a mere drop in eternity terms.
>>25253692Yet immortal lives like a human in a way it has human form. Anything that lives that long or has such power would be alien primordial not copy paste sect over and over again. Do chinks lack any imagination?
>>25253703>Do chinks lack any imagination?Do you?
>>25253703>Yet immortal lives like a human in a way it has human form.Fundamental misunderstanding of the Tao.
>>25253711Explain senior
I want to read Chinese novels, but I cannot take the names of the characters seriously.
>>25253712If a human became something else entirely through immortality, then that would be unwholesome and not in line with the Way. If a human holds no love for humanity; their own or otherwise, then they would not choose to be an immortal. From the perspective of a taoist, an immortal is simply an individual with an overwhelming yang essence.Immortality really just means a being has attained perfection. An immortal human is a perfect human in the same way an eternally lasting universe is a perfect universe. The goal is perfection; though immortality (as in being without risk of aging, sickness, hunger, thirst, or death) is in of itself desirable, but the means of attaining it require perfection and harmonizing your Dao.As a westerner, you should understand all of this to be analogous to Jesus Christ.
>>25253799So not necessarily perfect but best possible human. They could choose to beasts to achieve strength no man can get but point of cultivation is to reach limit of man's potential.
>>25253799>, then that would be unwholesome and not in line with the WayIs this demonic way they speak of
>>25253690No concept of infinity until relatively recently unlike Westerners (and even Indians), so there's a culture of using extremely large numbers instead of using the infinite. You see it in mahayana sutras as well
>>25253722Filtered. Tie Ruo Nan is such a good name it's become a label I use for similar character archetypes in my own writing.
Initially I thought about ignoring this thread as a racists rambling.Then... honestly, I have read a few translations of Asian literature, mainly Chinese and Japanese works, and I must admit that this literature has an odd drive to it.I can't quite pinpoint what it is. It's like they are easier and more action-oriented, and somehow more symbolically deep at the same time. Which I, as a Westerner, would call impossible.Take the example of "Jin Ping Mei," The Golden Lotus. On the surface, it's a story full of sex, not unlike some erotic romances in the West. Not unlike de Sade, but with much more "normal" intercourse.Yet, there is some kind of drive to it, as if the author was aiming for something more.Do you understand what I mean?
>>25253799>The goal is perfection; though immortality (as in being without risk of aging, sickness, hunger, thirst, or death) is in of itself desirable, but the means of attaining it require perfection and harmonizing your Dao.Damn if only Otto Weininger discovered Taoism
