Why do you read philosophy?

In order to write better erotic fanfiction, unironically. Currently about a quarter of the way through the CoPR, though I want read Bataille's Erotism before going back to the Second and Third Critiques

Any philosophy book that actually helps you understand reality?

Man I fucking hate Deleuze. She's a tattooed cretin too. That's extra terrible.

Anyways I'm more of a historical and political sociologist than a philosopher

Of course Deleuze attracts this kind of weirdo. If there are any Deleuzetroons here, kindly kill yourself.
>>
>>25255006
Because epistemology is the root of epistemology and politics, I believe it will help me better understand the unspoken and spoken assumptions that are the base of society, how better use them to my favor and perhaps alter them.

If you want to understand reality you study mathematics and physics. If you want to figure out what human experience is about you read philosophy. If you want to understand how society and people work you need to touch grass as books somehow can't seem to convey it properly in a tangible way.

Is every single thread these days just some stupid fucking TikTok or Twitter screenshot?

/lit/ is almost exclusively Gen z retards that came from some alt-right grifter on tiktok pushing self improvement by performative reading of philosophy books, so yes every thread will be culture war bullshit Twitter and tiktok screenshot.
>>
>>25255006
People are really, really stupid at philosophy. I don't know if it's bad reading comprehension or literal soullessness, but most of you sound like 75IQ whenever you give an opinion on philosophy.
>>
>>25255746
I think it's just an inherent problem with /lit/; older posters naturally start going elsewhere for serious discussion and get replaced with youngniggers. But when the young replacements are of such catastrophically low quality as in the recent decade, you get the current state of this garbage fire of a board.

Philosophy is the least useful of all the "sciences." It's for people too dumb to get into STEM. You are only into philosophy because your're too stupid to get into actual science.

Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry > Biology > Psychology> Sociology>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Philosophy.

Philosophy is prior to science, it's not for stemcels because they're too stupid to get anything which isn't quantized or descriptive. They mistake quantities for reality and descriptions for explanations, inso doing they don't realize they create their own retarded philosophy. This is why they need to stick to being glorified human calculators otherwise they'll come up with stupid shit like string theory and atomism in general, something that's easily debunked if they understood philosophy.

>something that's easily debunked if they understood philosophy

You're such a fucking idiot. Math and physics describe reality at it's most fundemental. These are fields in which you use tools, instruments and experimentation to come to your conclusions. How else will you describe actual reality? Philosophy is such a cucked field because you guys have absolutely nothing. Zero. Your "form" of study is looking at the sky with your mouth agape, scratching your chins like dumb apes and wonder if reality is made out of demons or pixies, or even worse....forms. lawl.

Philosophy is the basis of science stemcel, it's fundamentally about seeking truth. You can describe something perfectly yet not understand a thing about it, understanding is where philosophy comes in. Understanding requires reasoning, not just observation. The worst thing about stemcels is how arrogant they are in thinking they've gotten rid of philosophy, what do you think empiricism is? It's a philosophy. The assumption that the physical is ontologically primary? A philosophy. The existence of an objective reality independent of our senses? A philosophy. That the universe is governed by eternal laws? A philosophy. The latter two literally have their foundation in Plato, a philosopher. The aggressive midwittery to discount philosophy while being built on philosophy proves stemcels should stay in their lane and do what they're good at, bean counting, leave the truth seeking to the people actually capable of it instead of human AI.

Glorified human calculators? Bean counting? It's those "glorified human calculators" which build the Turing machine. You know the very device you are using to spew your absolute drivel on? If it weren't for actual science and experimentation then we would still be jerking off in Plato's cave about the meaning of rocks instead of cultivating them for silicon. Philosophy is meaningless in the face of physics and math. You speak about truth? How would you ever come to a truth without experimentation and observation.

>>
>>25259644
What are we having right now if not a philosophical debate? If philosophy is unimportant then why are you even debating? If philosophy were unimportant you would simply observe data and crunch numbers, but you don't just do that, nor does it even make sense to do that, because data itself is completely meaningless without an interpretation, ie PHILOSOPHY. In other words, experimentation and observation operates under a philosophical framework, that we use data to seek truth is a philosophical endeavor. The notion of truth itself is philosophical since philosophy means "lover of wisdom". The moment you go from only making observations to interpreting and theorizing is the moment you're doing philosophy. Even the methodology of science is philosophical, do you think we observed and experimented the methodology of science? You know what science was historically called? A natural PHILOSOPHY. Here you are though considering philosophy some kind of primitive "science", a complete inversion of reality. Why do you think quantities actually exist as anything more than a concept? This assumption is philosophical, that reality can be quantized, that individual entities actually exist and can thus be counted. This is nothing more than a conceptual reification, and thus not ultimately true but only conventionally true, something you would understand if you weren't a stemcel and if you actually examined your presuppositions, ie if you actually did philosophy.
>>
>>25259740
I should say that the notion of truth itself is philosophical not just because the origins of the word, but also that there is a truth that we can seek is a philosophical assumption.
>>
>>25259612
Science is a subdomain of philosophy but "philosophy" when named as such, exclusively, is a rotting corpse carved into a crude, wholly inadequate imitation of the divine and ancient φιλοσοφία which lives on elsewhere.
>>
>>25259740

B..b..but what about empiricism, materialism, naturalism or whatever-ism. You even have philosophy of science!

Oh give me a break. Just because you guys have a definition or view about every single school of thought or idea which get in your fucking heads doesn't mean you have ownership over it. Do you honestly think when scientists are interpeting data they are doing....philosophy. Oh yeah things like the LHC are one big philosophical experiment for sure my guy. You are one of those fags who take "I think therefore i am" as an absolute. By your logic psychology should reign lawl.
>>
>>25259805
Schools of thought are philosophical in nature stemcel.
>Do you honestly think when scientists are interpeting data they are doing....philosophy.
Yes, for example marxists can observe the exact same history yet come to a different interpretation and explanation than a non-marxist. People observe the exact same fact that there appears to be an external world yet come to different interpretations or explanations of this fact (idealism, materialism, etc.). People observe universals and particulars yet come to different interpretations as to their ultimate nature (particularism, realism). This has real effects in science because these different interpretations lead to different models of reality, and if you're truly scientific then you remain a skeptic, it could be that certain models aren't entirely explanatory and that the dogmas we hold as true aren't completely true. A lot of things you think we know how they work we don't actually, and is the result of trial and error, in the same way primitive man didn't know a spear thrower worked yet is still able to build one. Descriptions and explanations are simply not the same. You took your descriptions for explanations which makes you the ultimate navel gazing dumbass, because you can't even debate without refuting yourself, and you're so lacking in self awareness that you fail to even see what a dogmatic and not only anti philosophical, but also unscientific retard you are; according to the actual principles of science, which btw is philosophical.
>>25259770
True, philosophy and also science has lost it's roots. Now you either have stemcels like the retard I'm arguing with or existentialists who don't care about truth.

It's funny because you're too stupid to realise that we're not having a philosophical debate here. What we're having is a debate on semantics and definitions. But you're probably going to spin it to something dumb as "Philosophy of semantics." because your kind want to dilute any single study to a school of thought.

It's also funny the sheer desperation to want to include STEM into philosophy just so the field can have an iota of relevance these days. Notice how badly you want science to be a subset of philosophy while not a single scientist i know, in my case data scientists, would ever see their studies, work and experiments as a "philosophical endeavour." It would demean an entire field. You might as well invoke forms or God lawl. You would be laughed out of the room. Philosophy was only relevant in a time when we didn't had the proper instruments, knowledge and means of experimentations to do actual Science.
