Who remembers the Star Wars: X-Wing books? I thought they were pretty good! Corran Horn is the perfect arrogant ace pilot, navigating biological warfare and courtroom drama.
>>
Not sure if i read these in order. Loved tge han solo trilogy and bounty hunter tales. Which books were Kuat shipyards in?

Expanded universe had a lot of good individual stories but taken all together they are really depressing. Our heroes defeat the emperor, blow up the Death Star, and have their Ewok party…. And then spend literally the rest of their lives fighting imperial warlords, alien invaders, extragalactic alien invaders, force demons, reborn Sith, returned lost Sith tribes, their own family, etc. and then a couple generations after they died (presumably from old age on some battlefield) the republic and Jedi get massacred again by the Sith.

The show must go on.

That's awesome though

I didn't read too many of the X-wing stuff. I was more into the New Jedi Order. I suppose I missed out

OH hell no, he's mid at best, his books feel like wasting your time... half the time spent on reading them - although Corran Horn is known to me as an interesting character. Michael is a Cuck that co-wrote books with his wife, just like most of these EU faggots.

Timothy Zahn on the other hand..

I only read the Plagueis novel which was very enjoyable, mostly because Palpatine is my favourite star wars character. Any other books where palps is the MC or at least a big part of the story?
>>
>>25255715
The ROTS novelization's depiction of Palapatine was good.

That's EU's original sin.
They sold these books with the pictures of Luke, Han and Leia because they thought noone's going to buy star wars stuff that isn't written about the main characters.
Turns out - the best parts of the Extended Universe were mostly the things originally created like Admiral Thrawn, Cpt. Palleon, C'baoth, Boba Fett adventures, various Bounty Hunters, Exar Kun, Korran Horn, Ulic Qel Droma, Beilert Valance, Dash Rendar, Xizor, Revan, Kyle Katarn, Bt-1 & triple zero, Black Krssantan, the Fel family Etc. etc...
Not to mention the extense of stories about the Emperor, Lord Vader, and other main movie characters, that gave them interesting background.
If you care about the stories about the main trio, the rebellion or women-generals related lunacy - it's almost unsalvagable and definetly unreadable. Abandon it before it turns you into a reddit tourist on here (a faggot or a femcel).
The characters aren't the same people they were in the movie as well, they get overcomplicated pretty fast. No wonder - since they're written by literal cucks and THEIR WIVES lmao. Some of the writers haven't even seen the movies at the time of writing their novel !
Who could forget some stupid shit like - Dantooine being a homeworld of Gov. Tarkin- kek, a deserted planet being a home to anybody would be a miracle, even for Expanded Universe standards. Oh, and he came back as a clone too lol !
Everything would've worked out if Luke and Leia were never mentioned alltogether aside from small-cameos in relations to Han's stories. Bold moves like killing Chewbacca or writing stories about an ethnic man like Lando are what kept EU in a 50/50 tier forever. Revisionism claims it is eternally better universe than the infamous prequels, but "Natasi Daala" (or Natasza Dalińska, jewish friend of the writer - the original person that character is named after), Bunny the Bounty Hunter, Mon Mothma are all spit in the face of an average viewer - or worse, they're foreshadowing an upcoming fall of the civilisation, denouncing 70's standards to usher the new post-2020' era of degeneracy.
Not even going to comment on Disney's works as it is goyslop for >>>/tv/ losers and not even an attempt to recreate the magic of original novels but pure, unsolicited robbery of ideas and turning of them into stories for female airforce soldiers of american war machine tier slop. (their targeted audience)

>It gave us a place where our favorite characters could live outside of the rigorous constraints of three blockbuster movies. In that way, there's nothing else quite like the EU, a space where characters who might've otherwise just been a cameo lived entire lives, and where the ones we didn't want to leave behind were allowed to live on or even allowed to die. The strengths of the EU came from this universe-building, some of which was so strong that its impact was still felt when the Expanded Universe was officially de-canonized in 2014.
Canon is a made up boogeyman that stops goys from reading books, they would never read anyway, holy kekola.
The only problem is that the Expanded Universe is getting buried beneath this prequel-sequel slop on the main websites of the internet. I think IT'S TIME TO REVIVE IT!

How the fuck is "Bunny the Bounty Hunter" a foreshadowing of the upcoming fall of the civilisation?

No, but they did take all the wrong ideas from them and ignored, if not twisted all of the right ones
>>
why is the world so granular but the stories so smooth?

thanks will read it

They're pretty good for what they are. One thing they do right is avoid convoluted melodrama in favor of keeping the focus on pulpy fighter ace adventures. Another thing they do right is using original characters as the main protagonists instead of using the movie characters as a crutch the way many EU novels did. The New Republic being just one faction among dozens of feuding warlord realms that broke away after Palpatine's death actually makes their survival and eventual victory feel plausible.
>>
>>25255902
Tf does that have to do with anything
>>

I'm saying the guy who praised the EU's shittier writing decisions (>>25255114)
is no better than a Disney shill.

I just started the first book today so I'm very happy to see this thread. It's really good so far. The only thing I don't like is the prose: Stackpole literally uses epithets like "dark-haired woman" and "blue-eyed man," which I find annoying.
The only other EU books I've read were Darth Plagues (probably my favourite), the Thrawn Trilogy (good), The Labyrinth of Evil (good) and that's it.
I want to get back into EU, but it really saddens me that those books and comics are not canon anymore. Surely, there is a lot of subpar garbage, but when it's good, it's good.
I've also read some Disney stuff like Tarkin (Luceno, so automatically good) and From A Certain Point of View (eh... meh?).
I now have a CHIM approach to Star Wars canon. If you are familiar with Kirkbride, you'll know that he stated that TES canon is whatever each individual fan wants it to be because CHIM. I basically achieved Star Wars CHIM. My canon is not EU or Disney Canon but whatever books, comics and games I like, plus some fanfiction. EU and Disney canon are official fanfics anyway, considering how they can be decanonized in any time (like the Clone Wars comics were replaced by TCW cartoon).

The first four are great. The next three by Allston are better. These books were a gigantic part of my childhood growing up and I would do crazy go stupid things to see them animated by a competent studio and ignore the entire ST soup just to make them canon again.

I'm about a quarter of the way into the Shadows of the Empire novel. I played the fuck out of the N64 game as a kid but never read the book, it's been interesting.

You really did, X-Wing is peak EU space adventures. Bacta War alone is rollicking good pirate fun.
