Do you listen to music while reading?I think it should obviously only be instrumental but do you also adjust the music to the genre or specific book youre reading?
I listen to instrumental music so basically jazz and classical 99 percent of the time
>>25259284Only instrumental since lyrics are distracting and whatever fits the mood of the book I'm reading. Not gonna listen to something upbeat like bossa nova if I'm reading a book with a dark tone. Upbeat music for upbeat works, darker music for darker works.
>>25259284I put on music when I need to block out background noises
>>25259284If necessary, use earplugs to block external noises.Music can be too distracting.
What is good music to listen to while reading War of the Worlds?
>>25259301autism, skill issue, my condolences
>>25259284Yes. I listen to medieval video games osts (like pentiment) for medieval history books for example. I listen to a lot of dark and light academia. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass to find something that doesn't have gay rain sounds in the background. I also change the music from moment to moment. Like if there's a battle going on in a history book I'll just put generic d&d battle music that doesn't sound like you're slaying a god. Or if there's a sad moment in a fiction book I'll put sad dark/light academia. But usually I end up sticking to the same few playlists/songs because so many of them have songs that don't fit. It's a pain in the ass to find channels with good playlists/songs but once you get it down it's comfy.
>>25259326>Sometimes it's a pain in the ass to find something that doesn't have gay rain sounds in the backgroundGod i fucking despise that cheesy tacky dogshit too
Always, if i read in silence my thoughts disassociate from what I'm reading and drift away. Music helps me keep it all grounded (ambient/drone/jazz/classical)
>>25259284i listen to lofii also read at the uni library
>>25259284Only when I'm reading in public (eg sitting at cafe while doing laundry). Usually stuff like Popul Vuh or Hiroshi Yoshimura
>>25259284rarely. If people are being loud in the public transport I'll play some jazz, but I never listen to music while reading when I'm alone.
>>25259288Not huge on Jazz myself but I did like Albert Ayler. Guy could create some chaos. Not really reading music though.
Onky when i need to block out external noise distracting me frim reading
>>25259603I like free jazz from time to time but it's definitely not the kind of jazz I put on for books.
>>25259284no, if you have the slightest aesthetic sensibility it will distract you just like listening to talk will. Having a soundtrack for activities that require focus is highly midwit coded.

White noise machine
I can't listen to music with singing anymore unless it's an opera, it's too distracting unlike in high school. Instrumental is optimal, something light like jazz or a film score. I tried reading while listening to Noise e.g Merzbow and it felt wrong.

I like string quartets when I’m reading. Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert. Occasionally some jazz. Nothing too strident though. Miles Davis’s ballads are very soothing. Blue in Green or Flamenco Sketches. Not a big fan of dissonance or heavy percussion when reading
>>25262138I see. Good taste. I definitely couldn’t listen to Beethoven’s later string quartets while reading though, ha.
>>25262236grand fugue probably makes for some intense reading sessions
Only instrumental stuff, usually SleepResearch_Facility or Bach or something
>>25259284No I prefer to listen to audiobooks while reading sheet music.
>>25262236>>25262284Maybe I’m crazy but I do find Op. 132 (Quarter No. 15) good reading music. I find it soothing and contemplative. But yeah Gross Fugue ain’t my cup of tea for reading. I ain’t that crazy.

I listened to the dawn of war 2 soundtrack while reading the iliad last week.
Yeah.
esdeekid + pynchon mad bussin
>>25259284I usually don't, but sometimes I play some videogame or movie soundtracks, some ambient albums and I also have a few specific playlists, like for reading horror I have picrel, Lustmord's Heresy, some Bohren songs, etc.I'm smoking weed right now and I started to think it would be interesting to read On the Road while listening Cuphead's OST.
>>25259284No, its too distracting.
>>25259284I like reading a composer's biography while listening to his music.
