Good morning sirs. I'm heartened to see the recent uptick in posting about Indian literature but the two charts that are always floating around don't quite do it for me, so I took it upon myself to design one that's comprehensive enough but doesn't get too bogged down in the different schools. I focused on three major traditions: Advaita, Vishishtadvaita (which is Vishnu-centric), and Kashmir Shaivism, seeing as these three schools are influential, are respectable philosophy-wise (unlike some popular movements in Hinduism), and have had interest from Westerners. I chose 60 books that I think get the gist of Indian religion across. I hope you anons will like it. Please do the needful and share

Was asking about Gita translations/editions in the other thread and I'm 99% sold on van Buiten. But what makes it better than the Johnson-Oxford? Is it just that it's bilingual?

Honestly I like it because it has several extra chapters of context. I've never read the oxford version but I'm sure it's fine; you've just got to stay away from the non-scholarly editions until you know enough to make your own decision about what ideologies should and shouldn't be read into the text

If India didn't exist I might have converted to Hinduism but it's just like islam, when you see the people that actively practice you just don't want to be associated with them you know?
