Averages out to less than 2 a decade over 90years, not that impressive.
>>25260758I'm not even mentioning Paz, Dylan Thomas, Henry Miller, HD, their history of translating 19th c. French modernists, etc. Considering how small the press is compared to Penguin, it's insane that they've been on the bleeding edge of literature for nine decades running
And still missing all the names they put out that I care about, other than Hawkes. The point was 90 years.
>>25260742didn't know about them so looked them up, they're the ones putting out on the calculation of volume so instantly goated, so to speak
interesting op. i wonder what the funding looks like behind the scenes
James Laughlin one based guy. Of course they're not quite what they used to be.
I've heard Borges translations are pretty hit or miss but I'm reading Labyrinths right now and loving it. Idk about how faithful it is but it's extremely readable
>>25260742it really is a wild signal-noise ratio. most presses just get lucky, but they've been able to sustain it since the 30s. I guess that's what happens when you're founded under the watchful eye of Ezra (PBUH)
And yet the vast majority of the books they've published the last 20 years are indistinguishable from those at FSG or Grove aka mock-literary effete slop. The last few new ND books I've read have sucked big time.
>>25260762that's weird that you wouldn't mention henry miller
>>25260742popularizing ESLs is the opposite of commendable. in fact when I'm in charge they'll be punished.
>>25261579>not mentioning Henry Miller >somehow this is a bad thing
