Ten pages of 'Fire and Blood' have more things happening than two books of the main GRRM serialization, and aside from maybe Cersei and Jamie, there has not existed any true starpower to justify accompanying the personal journeys of ASOIAF characters ever since Tyrion shot his father. The fake Griff, the fake Duck & Egg and the new Blackfyre rebellion are cool ideas, but we barely spend enough time with these characters.

'Fire and Blood' suggests and lets the reader do the characterization, rather than take us through the slog that is 'will they won't they' of endless Daenerys chapters where the Dragon Queen (still a continent away from the books' plots) ponders if she should marry this guy or not.

Just imagine if GRRM had to write a book series on the Aenys x Maegor struggle. At this point I don't even know if I want 'Winds of Winter', because I am very much sure that nothing will happen in the entire book that shouldn't have already happened in Dance. It is baffling that the battle over Mereen and Stannis's battle for Winterfell are not there.

Good ol' George.

It's a lot easier to write a lorebook because you don't need to worry about style and can just dump loads of info. And yet GRRM can't even finish volume 2 of it. The man can't finish a damn thing any more.

>BEST A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE BOOK
High praise indeed.

I thought writing history was easy and fun for George but according to that last interview he even struggles with this. I knew we're never getting Winds but I had high hopes for this one. Fool me once

Every dialogue in ASOIAF explodes violently into a history lesson, I am surprised he struggles with it when he wrote a fantasy world where everyone seems to be a graduate school-level of history knowledge.

Random barely literate knight knows centuries of obscure factoid and political minutia.

Yeah I too judge a books quality based on the amount of “things happening”. You fucking retarded cunt faggot

There is something called 'pace', that GRRM seems to have forgotten about. I can't wait for Winds of Winter to end, and Daenerys to still be in Mereen.

If he dies, doesn't he realize that his entire legacy will be in jeopardy?

"What you get, you get" is only good for authors who are renowned for multiple (completed) works.

The dude had multiple chances to crunch and get it done at a good time but he just didn't. He literally thought he'd manage to get both books finished before the TV series ended, so his own story got spoiled in a half-assed way that everyone hated. But even then, if he finished Winds soon after the show, there'd have been fans hyping it up as "Way better than the show!" And there's no reason to think he'll finish it before the current shows end so he won't get the tie-in publicity ffom them either.

You know what would have helped Winds a lot? If Dance had wasted less time.

>erase all Quentyn chapters
>make Daenerys's nonsense just be realizing her dragons are killing people, then wake up to Quaithe's prophecy and the reality that Mereen is going to be invaded by an overwhelming force from inside and outside (two chapters max)
>keep Tyrion and Conington's characters
>cut all Reek chapters, they are inconsequential
>cut all Asha chapters, make Davos accompany Stannis and be the POV for him
>Jon Snow's parts can stay as they are
>cut all Davos / Menderly chapters
>end Dance with the Stannis battle in the north and unravel of the northern conspiracy, succesful or not, followed by the Jon Snow assassination
>end Dance with Daenerys ultimately being defeated in Mereen, but a combination of Selmy, Victarion (who turns to Daenerys's side) and her dragons fighting the slave bay armies and Volantis to a standstill, where Tyrion convinces Daenerys to accept the deal and go to Westeros with her slaves and dragons to reconquer and honor Selmy's sacrifice
>epilogue stays as it is, with Varys killing Kevan Lannister and Pycelle and making his speech, as the Golden Company prepares to make a run for it

Next book starts with the shocking title: THE FINAL BLACKFYRE REBELLION, from Ilyrio Mopatis's POV, describing how satisfied he is with his and Varys's plan, and the Golden Company's progress, about to take a headless King's Landing.

While the second prologue is a description of the Others encroaching in, about to attack the wall, and a wighted Benjen Stark revealed to be one of their field captains.

Chapter 1 is Jon Snow's ressurrection, halfway through the book Daenerys arrives takes the Iron Throne from Griff and Duck. Dream of Spring is all about fighting the Others.

Done, we cut at least 250 pages of bullshit, trim down the fat, and the next book can begin with

I have no idea of what to do with the Greyjoy thing, though. I think it'd be appropriate if they take Oldtown and destroy it, as per Samwell's perspective. So that Daenerys has to deal with the Others and Euron at the same time.

Jesus Christ, this gives me a headache just trying to think about how to end this

There needs to be three books. Too many plot threads everywhere.

The Greyjoy and dorne plot came I think after George came up with most of the world building after storm of swords. He came up with the backstories of the daynes greyjoys and starks of the past and the build up to the original long night, giving them all this historical significance but then he needed to connect all that to the present day plot, so he extended the war of the five kings and added these new factions to sort of fit all these pieces together, and these stories moving forward will also reveal a lot about the past

Dorne can be relevant if Arianne goes to King's Landing to try and seduce Young Griff. But ultimately, Dorne will be thrust to the side.

I think Margeary will survive, and she will indeed take everything from Cersei when it is Margeary that succesfully seduces Young Griff and convinces him to put down the Faith, which will start a spiral of destruction for the Blackfyres. Very much like the show, I think the only way to get the Greyjoy's mixed is if the Greyjoy support Cersei and Tommen somehow as their puppets after they destroy Oldtown.

Eventually, Daenerys lands at the end of Winds, then we can get a nice scenario of the three queens (Daenerys x Margeary x Cersei), while the Others are conquering the North.

I think the North needs to fall, so we can at least believe the threat of the Others. It'd be appropriate if the final battle against the Others happens at a least stand in the Trident, so everything north of the Twins needs to go to hell.

I think these books were far too ambitious. It is even hard to solve all these moving parts in hypothesis like this. And when you account all the POVs that need resolution, it gets insane.

indeed. as I've said, Feast & Dance should've been a single book covering the same ground; it could've been done with proper editing.
