yeah it's pretty helpful for remembering stuff, sometimes i'm in the mood to write something every day, sometimes i go weeks without writing anything and just put like a date range and summarize what was goin on during that time

Everybody should, especially if they entertain hopes of being a writer. Anyone calling it gay is just projecting.
If nothing else, a journal gets you in the habit of writing regularly. You can practice constructing a good sentence, and develop a style for yourself.
It will also help you straighten out your thoughts, and add meaning to your life. After all, the unexamined life is not worth living.
