Not sure if this is more /biz/ related but I've recently started earning some good money and want to put them to work. I want something to give me principles of and strategies for investing, examples of how other people have made money, basic financial concepts, etc.
Preferably something more recent so it's not too disconnected from the current landscape.

Bugman.

John Bogle's 'The Little Book of Common Sense Investing'
Ben Graham's 'The Intelligent Investor'

Read the first for some groundwork on passive investing and ETFs. Read the second one only if you think you have the time and stomach to ever dedicate a part of your portfolio to pick your own stocks.

This is good advice. I haven’t read Bogle but know who he is. I usually recommend A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel first, then Graham. Basically for the same reasons - random walk does a nice job of deboonking bad ideas you might have about the market. Bogle might be more practical if you’ve already inclined to invest in index funds.

Put your money into a Roth IRA; then, using that money that's within the Roth IRA, invest in index funds. That's literally all you need to do if you're willing to let compound interest do its thing. Spend your time reading about finance and rentier capitalism instead sprinkled in with some Durkheim.

You don't need books, they're all either outdated, grifting, or aimed at academics or traders. Literally just read wikipedia pages or ask chatgpt to explain how stock markets and index funds work. The reality is, investing for the average person is 90% about being tax efficient.

Investing in AI stocks made me 2x my money in a few months why the hell would I invest in index funds. Maybe if you just want to set it and forget it for the rest of your life or use it as a hedge with like 40% of your portfolio then yeah.
