Anyone here fans of 19th century french Adventure and Slice of Life literature?

Where can I find other likeminded fans of these books online that aren't old ass boomers and stuff? Most of the communities I found online are all women and I feel super uncomfortable in their spaces, it's like walking on eggshells and you can tell they hate men.

Im a big hugo dumas balzac verne and zola fan

You're such a beta male it's disgusting.

It's not fear, it's just I'm not able to talk the same way I talk with anons or with the lads on discord.

have seen this phrase thrice here in the past week. what causes someone to become maladjusted enough to think this. are you like really ugly or whatever where talking to people weirds them out?

>are you like really ugly or whatever where talking to people weirds them out?
no! I just dont want people to clock me as a man and treat me differently. I'm not there to try to hit on women, i'm there to talk about my special interest time period and their method of communication is just different! I don't know how to explain this so you can understand my POV.

I think that genre is called "realism" or something

I understand you. I always cringe whenever a woman gets into anything I happen to be into because it's never from a holistic interest in the topic or setting, never a "big picture" understanding or appreciation. It's always fetishization, cargo cultism, "fangirling," that sort of thing. Turning historical figures or characters into femgoonbait and latching on to petty "icks." You can't actually talk to them about the topic because if you're not flicking the bean over some fictional manfailure they're obsessing over or spilling the tea over some new aspect of drama around a metareading of the work they're just going to be totally lost and even offended that you dare explain their life obsession to them. And God forbid that you want to have a critical or adversarial discussion, it'll immediately get taken personally. I hope this is a relatable explanation.

What communities did you even find that talk about those writers? I feel like French literature, even though its some of the best in the world, rarely gets talked about online.

Just reddit tumblr and some twitter accounts.
I can talk about Verne in general sci fi communities but stuff like Balzac and Zola, I'm not going to find anything.
There's a really big Les Miserables fan community but it's mostly just fans of the musical.
Monte Cristo is pretty popular too. The subreddit isn't super active though but there's a community on tumblr as well.
Nothing else though. Maybe stack exchange but I doubt it. Probably some discord servers somewhere out there but I don't know.

Yeah this is basically how I feel, it's like I'm talking to someone who isn't there for the same reason I am and it makes me reevaluate why I even care about this niche topic to begin with.

Yeah that drives me up the wall because I know that's the reaction I'd get from them if I try to engage so I never bother!

Funny that you called them slice of life. I also feel like Balzac is very comfy, but too bleak to make an analogy with Japanese slice of life. Not to mention Flaubert and Zola.

sheesh that's some low confidence

Yea thats what I figured. I dont think the problem with reddit and Tumblr is that their women, but that its basically only millennial midwits who are also bigger "moral"fags than American Christians. There are posts on there from people that dont get why Nurse Ratched is evil.

I like Antony Trollope. 19th century British Slice of Life lit. Can recommend.
I hope that's close enough
