I am a do-nothing bed-rotter, how do I replace my endless rumination and dreaming with drive and action?
>>
>>25268161
Just pick 1 thing on your todo list and force yourself to do it.
Often once I've actually done something, the inertia is enough to keep me doing a few more tasks before I get tired, but even if that's the only thing you did all day, at least you did one thing instead of nothing at all.
>>
Age ten years, have massive panic spiral that you wasted your life sitting in the waiting room for all the things you actually value and want to get done and that even if you start now you'll be ten years behind and you could currently be an exciting interesting person but instead you're a 20 year old in the body of a 30 year old going on 40, then time travel back and beat the fuck out of your younger self and make him swear a blood pact to right the wrongs you made

Alternatively, get a 30+ year old currently going through that psychotic panic to mind meld with you and give you a sense of just how bad it will be and how he'd literally cut his own limbs off if it meant he could undo the damage he did to his only time on this planet by frittering it away

take coq10 and multivitamins, get fancy healthy green smoothy mixes, eat protein in everything you make and get protein bars instead of candy. I dont think literature is the domain for that.

>nepo
This is the first sentence on the book summary:
>childhood was a nightmare -- poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights.
So, who is right here?
>>
>>25268161
Idk about books. But the main reason you can't get anything done is your cell phone. When it comes to long-term keeping a good pace doing a task is just important as not doing the task. Every time your let your attention be robbed by any of the TicTok style reels or by notifications, you both harm your attention span and get in the habbit of depending on the technology for comfort when you're stressed and tired, technology that's outright designed on purpose by big corperations to steal your free time from you by any means necessary and make it harder to think.

Screen addiction, and really all the fast pace bullshit of modern society, creates time spent in your life that feels both mildly entertaining and like no time has passed at all. You don't feel energized and ready to try again after technology usage. I lost at least half of the years 18-24 to it. Now I'm 26 and full of regrets. It has tormented me the last two while trying to finish my studies. I intend to work to be done with it, right after I graduate in a week. I intend to eventually be done with depending on the written word, too. Socrates in The Phaedrus had the right idea. If I want to get the most out of my time here, even if I'm never going to have the most I could have had, then I need to learn how to menorize things rather than just rely on the appearance of knowing the truth. We're all being cucked right now, by ink on paper and by flashing rgb lights on screens. It's literally taking your life from you before you get any chance to learn anything.

But, even before I do that, the other thing keeping you stuck is your body and the slop they feed you. Even with screens, if you exercised 8 hours a day, then in the few hours rest you'd get, you'd still feel refreshed, even with the screens. Further, if you do this in nature on, say, a hike, then you'll feel even better even quicker because of the outdoors.

So, to recap

Fix the slop in your body, then use the momentum fix the slop in your mind. This all can be accomplished in about six months or less. It just gets hard to maintain due to stupid shit like navigating without Google maps.

Modafinil. It's like rolling downhill, just need that first push then I keep rolling for hours on constant smooth dopamine release. Only caveat is that it lasts 16 hours so you should take it first thing in the morning and get going right away. You can crank out week worth study in just 2 days.

"Anon I..." what? Don't you /lit/fags like Socrates?

>At the Egyptian city of Naucratis, there was a famous old god, whose name was Theuth; the bird which is called the Ibis is sacred to him, and he was the inventor of many arts, such as arithmetic and calculation and geometry and astronomy and draughts and dice, but his great discovery was the use of letters. Now in those days the god Thamus was the king of the whole country of Egypt; and he dwelt in that great city of Upper Egypt which the Hellenes call Egyptian Thebes, and the god himself is called by them Ammon. To him came Theuth and showed his inventions, desiring that the other Egyptians might be allowed to have the benefit of them; he enumerated them, and Thamus enquired about their several uses, and praised some of them and censured others, as he approved or disapproved of them. It would take a long time to repeat all that Thamus said to Theuth in praise or blame of the various arts. But when they came to letters, This, said Theuth, will make the Egyptians wiser and give them better memories; it is a specific both for the memory and for the wit. Thamus replied: O most ingenious Theuth, the parent or inventor of an art is not always the best judge of the utility or inutility of his own inventions to the users of them. And in this instance, you who are the father of letters, from a paternal love of your own children have been led to attribute to them a quality which they cannot have; for this discovery of yours will CREATE FORGETFULNESS in the learners' souls, because they will not USE THEIR MEMORIES; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. The specific which you have discovered is an aid not to memory, but to reminiscence, and you give your disciples not truth, but ONLY THE SEMBLENCE OF TRUTH; they will be HEARERS OF MANT THINGS AND WILL HAVE LEARNED NOTHING; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing; they will be TIRESOME COMPANY, having the SHOW of wisdom without the reality.

midwits never notice that they're reading that argument in a written text
by having socrates present that argument within that context, plato is implicitly claiming "i've solved this problem, look at what i'm doing to see how"
>>
>>25268349
Ignore retards like this anon.

>>25268161
5 minute rule. It's easier to convince yourself to do something when you tell yourself it will only be for 5 minutes. And once you actually start the task, it's much easier to keep doing it far past the 5 minute mark.
>>
>>25271484
That doesn't fix the problem Socrates is presenting to us. Yes, we're communicating through written text, but he didn't. Plato recorded Socrates. And I plan to ditch written text in the future, not this very second.

You're mistaking what's valuable here. Written text isn't what creates good thoughts. There are infinitely more writers who are glibs and readers who only consume reference-slop just to regurgitate it because of written text than there are people with a single original idea who can repeat what they've learned in their own right without plagiarizing some dickweed philosopher's penis they like to suck so much. The paper and pen isn't what creates the author. The paintbrush isn't what paints the painting. The person is, dumbass.

Even as I speak to you now, I speak to you through the words of others. These are the tools I was raised with by a degenerate society that's doomed to mistake minds for AI slop. Socrates would roll in his grave, if he had one. And, the luddites were always right.

Plato did not solve the problem or intend to do so. It was not him who misused the text he wrote, but the people who came after and read Plato's text and worshipped it. They took his recorded word over the people around them and over themselves and their own memories. Plato just sought to record Socrates, not replace him. You're putting words in Plato's mouth that do not follow necessarily from his actions. He's not telling us to abuse ourselves with his text. He'd be disgusted with us.

>how do I replace my endless rumination and dreaming with drive and action?
>replace my endless rumination and dreaming with drive and action?
>endless rumination with drive and action?
>with drive and action
>drive and action
Are you sure that's what you really want? From an outside perspective drive and action may appear attractive and even desirable qualities to posess, but when one really possesses drive and action it can be a terrifying and exhausting experience, and if one may be said to be predisposed to a kind of what one may call paralysis wherein one is inclined to lie in bed and ruminate and dream, one can be imagined to be easily put into a state of terminal fatigue by even the least bit of drive and action. Though if one wants to see what a life of drive and action might consist of, I can certainly recommend the 2003 film Italian Job. Just watch this scene from it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfltok1kHPQ

The real opposite of endless rumination is usually not “drive.” It’s tolerating ordinary, unspectacular action

Become slightly more interruptible by reality every day.

A great lesson I learned from watching drivers in movies. Decision time matters. Reduce the delay between proposition and action, even just by a few seconds matters. Forward movement IS MOVEMENT!! But instead of Move fast and break things, you have to maintain System integrity, introduce manageable targets for acquisition at your current enagagement capacity, adapt to the targets, and repeat!

>>25268259
Stop thinking and start doing there is no other way
>>
>>25271714
Well considering I have tried that and still can't initiate the "start doing" part even when the task is urgent, easy to do, and is something I want to do, that advice doesn't cut it
>>
>>25271738
Just do it, its not that complicated
Start with small things thats real advice
Whats stopping you, are you tired? unmotivated? is it hard to do? Fuck all that and work
You can laugh and rationalize all you want, but your brain isnt gonna help you to put effort in things

This is my last reply

>I'm on both of these
One more cause how fucking retarded are you, drop that shit right fucking now, putting meds that mess with your clearly broken brain, first get sober holy shit
>>
>>25268161
Unironically self help book, 4hour workweek or atomic habits or dee work, doesnt trally matter
>>
>>25271763
You say "sober" like i'm an addict, I take them as prescribed.

I'm even worse off meds then I am on them, at least when I take them I CAN focus on a task if I manage to start it (even if that only happens 10% of the time), wheras without the meds I can't stay focused even if I manage to start the task

Methylphenidate worked better but as of a few months ago it started to wear off within like 2 hours of taking it, hence the switch to Vyvanse and Adderall

>Plato recorded Socrates.
>Plato just sought to record Socrates, not replace him.
this is not at all obvious, and we have some evidence against it. plato's symposium and apology differ substantially from xenophon's account of the same events.
>>
>>25271432
yeah i agree with the other anon, and a fortiori would add that this argument is conveyed through a mythologeme, a practice which plato's socrates likewise problematizes (and still is forced to utilize) in gorgias.

derrida and strauss are practically the only attentive readers of plato in the tradition, it's kind of hilarious
