like wtf? so apparently blue eyes and blonde hair doesn't equal having any talent. 'cause If nordics are so superior why the heck has their societies created jack shit when it comes to literature? there's people that learn russian just to read their authors, yet if you learned swedish, what the heck are you gonna do with it? no scandinavian country has anything even remotely close to a dostoevsky or chekhov, not even to speak of southern europe who absolutely destroys them in all aspects, be it poetry, fiction or philosophy.

I study Old Icelandic for Old Icelandic literatureIt's sad because if modern Scandinavian languages hadn't borrowed so much low german vocabulary I'd be very excited to learn one of them
>why the heck has their societies-
>>25270236They were to busy contributing to actual scientific discoveries, and also furthering racism (read: being based).
>>25270489Are his novels any good?Basically, any Scandinavian literature reader: please give me 3-5 novels from this area that you consider masterpieces. Hard mode: no Hamsun.
>>25270236Because nobody lives in nordic countries.

>>25270236Knud Hamsun was a Norwegian and is one of the best writers. So are Ibsen, Bjørnson and many others.

>>25270838>StrindbergMin neger!
>>25270236The ruling classes of Western Europe the source of the greatest European achievements were mostly Nordic. Scandinavian culture is ass because nobody lives there.

>>25270739Novels are an historic non-entity in literature and only popular because anglosphere and russian retards have inordinate resources to waste on printing 3 billion imaginary friends instead of a soul to connect with folklore, history, or the canon.
What about this?
I really enjoyed Fuglene by Vesaas. Are any of his other books as good as that one or is he a one hit wonder? Read another one of his, I forget the title, but it was about a pregnant women and her family showing up at a random house in the middle of the night because their car broke down on the way to the hospital. That one was not nearly as good as Fuglene. Also, I'd add Tove Ditlevsen and Tom Kristensen to the pot for Denmark, though I guess they might not be high brow enough for lit.
>>25271285is there any good books on Scandinavian history and folklore
>>25270236I tend to agree. Most current scandinavian literature is dogshit. It is the result of the intellectual elite being woke retards, and the fact the cultural circle is so small that you can't get an audience unless you write something that appeals to the said woke retards who control both publishing houses and are among the book critics who essentially decide what most people buy.Current literature is dogshit. The last legit great Norwegian writer was in my opinion Jens Bjørneboe, and he died in the 70s.
>>25271781Fuglane is his main work. Another prominent title is Is-slottet (the ice palace). Some of his novels have been made into films, so that's always a sign the books were well received. If you enjoyed Fuglane you might want to try "Brannen".
>>25270236who tf needs literature when your surrounded by blonde blue eyed baddies amir?
>>25273419As for folklore, just go straight to the source.Asbjørnsen and Moe collected Norwegian folk tales. Most of the mythology are gathered from the writings of Snorre Sturlasson who wrote the "yngre edda" (prose edda) and another compilation made by an unknown writer called "eldre edda" (poetic edda). As for history books idk since I haven't read that many English language books on norse history.
>>25271265>>25274208Came to the thread to post Ice PalaceBoth the book and film are great but I can't recommend the latter to anyone IRL due to the extensive underage nudity
>>25274250tru that, although the latter has recently been released on blu ray. Not sure I got placed on some kind of list for buying it.
>>25271265Thanks.>>25271285The French wrote a lot of novels.
