What do we do about the worrying lack of literacy among the youth?

who cares

No I'm not

There was a bait post a while back that claimed zoomies couldn't read anything but for first person because they couldn't foIIow what was going on. Now I'm to believe they won't read anything of it either. What's a nigger to believe?

Actually I'm sucking a dick as we speak

Are there any (good) books in second person?
>>
>>25271434
This is beyond literacy issues, it's straight up "but I did eat breakfast today" shit
>>
>>25271434
Is the sentiment here that they read 1st person as themselves? What happens when they read an email or letter written by somebody else? They inject themselves into it and get confused? This makes me curious how they'd interpret 2nd person
>>25271508
idk if I'd describe it as "good" so far but I'm reading "Bright Lights, Big City" right now and it's in 2nd person, some people seem to like it
>>
>>25271508
The Vivisector by Patrick White, A Pagan Place by Edna O’Brien. Both use it as a way of communicating a childhood stream of consciousness
>>
>>25271434
Nothing wrong with first person present.
But trashy pastiches of Hunger Games like Divergent and its relatives are all first person present and people keep reading and paying for it
>>
>>25271526
I think the joke is ultimately playing dumb for laughs which is a social behavior television and integration gave us
But I think also that part of the joke is thay people (of all ages) are so self absorbed that hearing anyone else's personal narrative shatters their solipcism
>>

>>25271619
Are you reading these second person books or are you listening passively to guided visualizations that are called audiobooks?
>>
>>25271732
I'm reading it? I don't listen to audiobooks

You are about to be recommended Italo Calvino’s novel, If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler, by an Anonymous poster on 4chan. Relax. Concentrate. It's not a terribly long post, but you feel the urge to stop reading it midsentence. You try to ignore the urge. You can get through it. While reading the post, you think of the way you're reading the post, which would otherwise distract you from the post if this weren't such an odd post, talking about itself.
Moving to the next paragraph, you are expecting the Anonymous poster to recommend you Italo Calvino's novel, If on a Winter's Night a Traveller. You read and read, however, but the recommendation does not appear. You are beginning to wonder if this post is a waste of your time. But since the post is almost over, you feel like it'd be a waste not to finish reading it. Now that you are almost over, you are starting to think whether you should reply to the post or not, if you were to, whether you should reply with a simple "Based" or "Cringe", and which memetic image would best accompany it. After a quick search through your reaction image folder (too big for its own good, you note), you decide to post a Basedjak and quote a random section of the text, in order to call the poster a faggot. You feel satisfied after doing so.

I can't tell if this is satire anymore. I wouldn't even be surprised if people now don't even have enough empathy to understand someone else's first person perpective

A Man Asleep by George Perec
>>
>>25271434
I don't. I will simply sit back and profit.
>>
>>25273158
Honestly, this. I don't mind a world where there's a premium on those who can read and write.
>>
>>25273158
Reading slop might not affect this but general literacy prevents retarded pedophiles from getting into power (see America).
>>
>>25273180
Evidently not.
>>
>>25271434
You people do realize that the end point of this is just the total collapse of industrial civilization right?

These people will just become barbarians or slaves or die.

The only logical and correct conclusion, which is that they are indeed illiterate.

I read it on Mike Ehrmantraut's voice and cadence

It seems to me like a sort of autoamputation that McLuhan describes. They forms of media they grew up with formed them exclusively as actors or audience. Hell, they're posting this on social media through a character, watching, how the others react. An ich-form book is something new and threatening for such personality, so an emergency shutdown ensues.
It's going to get a lot worse: Any kind of intimacy will provoke such reaction. Even a pervert generation would be less miserable than a generation sentenced to sit in a cuckchair forever.
