Houellebecq sucks
>>25272929Eminem‘s lyrics are better than this
>>25272929This is so bad I kys myself. Should've been you.
>>25272929I enjoyed Submission, but I find the other 4 or 5 of his novels I've read to be too similar. Poem is terrible by the way
>>25272929His poems are shit and every time I see that he was in some interview to say some random edgy shit I cringe a little too hard. His porn is probably awful too. His books are solid though. I like them. I have read Submission, Elementary Particles, Map and Territory, Serotonin, Annihilation, and Possibility of an Island and not one of them really sucked. Maybe the others do. If anyone has read them I would appreciate your opinion on the ones I haven't read.
>>25273231Elementary particles was a cynical edge fest full of resentment and faggotry. He was shoving in these "tender" scenes of childhood and being nice to other kids only to make his grotesque edgery stand out even more, there was nothing authentic about the entire book other than his self-loathing and his complete inability to comprehend life as beautiful or capable of bearing meaning.
>>25272929Is it better in French?
>>25273290Every book of Houellebecq, except Annihilation, is like that. Pretty much all his books are a critique of liberalism and individualism. He takes the degree of decay and decadence they have caused to a higher level to display that its shit. The Neo-humanism in Elementary Particles and Possibility on an Island are a solid, but even more depressing solution. He is a social critic and critiques the damage the modern individualistic ideologies have caused. Of course the book isn't happy sunshine. He isn't trying to show the world as it is, but what the ideology is doing to it. The display of the inability to comprehend life as beautiful and incapability of bearing any meaning is part of that. The main critique of the book is that the 68 revolution freed the human from any restrictions, but took its meaning with it. You are free to do whatever you want but all the goals and meaning was replaced with hedonism. Some of this is inspired by his personal life, f. e. abandoned by parents and mother being some sort of hippy, but it probably is very exaggerated.
