I am scared of telling people that I read or reading in public because then they will think I'm doing it performatively or to flex on them or something.
>>
You’re a bitch
>>
In my experience telling people about such things will make them
A. Think im dunking on them or
B. I think i'm smarter than them
C. I am smarter than them

If you have a dad and the other guy doesnt, dont talk about having a dad. This will make him angry. Most people want what they dont have. Most people want to be or feel smart.
You may act superior when you are dumb, this will cause hostility just as much as if you are smarter.

Im rambling a bit, but make sure you know more about the oerson before you reveal too much. Did they ask you about hobbies? Of not they think you are dunking on them unless it's a rare case of a literary type

I have looked for advice here on putti g up "psychic" defenses and figuring out why people seem hostile. I am hestitant to suggest something to a 4channer that is somewhat "Machiavellian" but the book 48 laws of power made me realize how i interact with people and how i should change it.

To publically read The Brothers Karamazov without looking like a dork I've replaced the cover with that of Doujinshi - Futanari Onee-chan Amaama Sex
>>
That's probably because you are doing it performatively. Nobody thinks I'm performative about reading because I read genre fiction and I'm not ashamed of it. You seem to have an adolescent desire to be "taken seriously" so it's very important to you that people perceive your reading "the right way". Which means you're being performant. Else you'd just read, and not give a shit what people think.
>>
>>25273507
you're a total neurotic. i bet you're american.
>>
>>25273507
Why are you telling me that? You think you're better than me?
>>
>>25273590
I wanted to share my interests and i thought you might have it in common or share back. Sorry if my hobbies are somehow make you insecure.
>>
>>25273507
Who cares? Anyone who would get insecure about you reading is a fucking retard who has outted themselves as such. As long as you're not reading those weird fetish monster novels that are popular with women.
>>
>>25273602
>Who cares?
If you have never hurt someone's pride you may be surprised how much of a pain in your ass they can become out of spite

Any recs?

I was knee deep in Platonic dialogue yesterday when a chick surreptitiously sat next to me (multiple unoccupied benches available) and aimed to use a nearby conversation to interrupt me to make the connection. Happens all the time when you’re good looking, athletic, and have a full head of hair.

I read at the outside picnic tables at work on my lunch break and enjoy seeing all the fat ugly fucks huffing and puffing inside with the goyslop they picked up. Feels good to remind people that I'm better looking AND smarter than them. You gotta lighten up a bit.
>>
>>25273897
You’d like that wouldn’t you
>>
>>25273919
Yeah i enjoy a good laugh
>>
It's not my problem whatever the fuck other people think about what I do in public. It's none of my business what other people think.

I've been watching porn on my train commute home from work for almost 5 years now and NO ONE has said anything about it so far.
>>
>>25273957
If that was true you would have been kicked off or even arrested in most places.
>>
>>25273507
Caring about what people think is low T behavior. Instead, what you should do is grab them by the waist and body slam them into concrete, then whip out your dick and piss on them. That will teach them to stop using academic PMC-speak like "performative"

>I am scared

>have a bunch of close friends that are actual idiots
>i sometimes can't help but come off as a typical "um, ackshually"-tier know it all because of how wrong they are about some of the shit they say
The good news is that I have friends who are also really smart, and they actually enjoy having conversations about complicated topics instead of shutting them down immediately.

I am not even capable of reading in public out of fear of being beaten up and robbed.

No, it has never happened to me before and rarely happens in my area.
>>
>>25273960
Nah only if you don't wear earplugs and bother other people, or if you masturbate in public. People might give weird looks but that's it. It's not illegal and no one cares. It's like a woman breastfeeding in the train, the people that care will just look away themselves.
>>
Wherever you are, if you want to read, just read. Of course it’s going to feel awkward when you are starting a new habit and in public no less, the important thing is to find joy and longing for the act itself, even if it takes some internal self-denial. Over time it’s going to feel natural and rewarding.

Don't worry niggas are not interested in stealing books.
>>
>>25274777
Yeah even in ghettos we now have "free public libraries" where books are put in shelves, they are never broken or stolen from because the type of person to break or steal things doesnt even think of books.
>>
>>25273507
get a hardcover version of harry potter book 5/6/7 and then hide your actual book inside

There has been far too much homage paid to the feculent opinions of the everyman. It was tolerable once, when the cracking of the slaver's whip and the turret fire of the world wars still echoed in our minds; it seemed proper to ask half-dead and subjugated for his opinion, the masters in the ivory towers had clearly failed in their solutions.
Yet, did the common man grasp the olive branch and rise intelectually to the nadir of a democratised intellectualism?
Or did he sit in the mire and long for the antipodes of all that was of mind and beauty?
Do not balk at the snobbery, I do not cast aspersions from a passing chariot, I grew from that same dung heap that seems whose steam still seems to cloud your judgement.
Rise; stop worrying about dung beetles' opinions on eating something other than shit.

>>25273507
They will ask me what I am reading and I will tell them only for them not to hear my mumbles and then I repeat myself only for them to still not hear what I said, so then I have to show them the kindle cover and then the conversation dies off.
>>
I don't have conversations where i tell people I read but when I want to make people feel bad i'll casually bring in and apply concepts and themes into conversations and act 1000% like i fully expect them to know of and understand what im talking about, like this is just general knowledge shit that any dumbass should be able to engage with, and theres not a single whiff that i believe im superior to them or have superior knowledge to them in any way at all. Everyone just acts like they know.

If i'm trying to converse with you about egypt, and your whole premise is based on egypt civilization starting 30k years ago, i am forced to correct you. Right?
